  1. ]the on air orgy for St. Louis has started and there will be no let up.....and really Chris Berman is the perfect person to dish out the on air BJ's that was TERRIBLE the way he sucked dick, but i think it was being piped live into the stadium the way the crowd reacted so i guess it was for their benefit
  2. I'm a degenerate gambler so I've got money on this with a friend... we agreed that nobody gets Pujols who we saw as the overwhelming favorite. i let him go first, he took Fielder, i took Howard, he took Pena, i took Gonzalez, he took Mauer, and i took Cruz, Inge was the odd man out.
  3. I also did not take into account the chances that the Mets, Braves, Marlins, and Phillies would all get paid off to lose the rest of their games.
  4. ]Washington 26 61 .299 22.5 73.5 54 0.00058 so they'll win the division 6 times out of 1,000,000? that takes into account the chances that they trade for Albert Pujols, Tim Lincecum, Hanley Ramirez, Manny Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia, Evan Longoria, and Zack Greinke all before the end of the day, right?
  5. This assumes that the manger operates with absolutely no influence from the GM. Maybe this is true, but I personally don't buy it. However, even if Manuel can stick Francoeur on the end of the bench without ever playing him and not hear a peep from above, Omar has still managed to make the team worse by hindering the roster's depth. There is no reason why this team can't put 25 replacement-level (or better) players in the dugout everyday. Francoeur would not be (is not) included in that group. thats pretty absurd, you really think Francoeur, who is 25 years old and has a 25 homer and 100 rbi season on his resume, is bad enough thay he doesnt belong on a major league bench? you'd rather bring argenis reyes or nick evans to the plate when you need an extra-base hit in the late innings? This trade made the Mets worse because they gave up a player that is much more likely to help them than the player they got in return. i would agree with that statement if you're talking about the remainder of the 2009 baseball season. Not only that, the player they got in return is actually less likely to help them than a player one can easily find in the minors or at the end of a team's bench. but then you went on to say this. please point to players the mets could "easily find in the minors" better than francoeur, and please bear in mind that other teams top prospects aren't "easily found", they'd cost more than church.
  6. ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr":3ajyn4wm]="Willets Point":3ajyn4wm]Now the Mets have had every player in baseball history with Franco in their surname: John Franco Matt Franco Julio Franco Jeff Francoeur[/quote:3ajyn4wm] Forgetting a few Franco-nas, no?[/quote:3ajyn4wm] Terry Francona is the only one i can think of, but he counts, sorry mets DocTee Jul 12 2009 11:53 AM Tito Francona, too.
  7. thats funny.
  8. so much for gaining a game as Philly came from 7-3 down in the 9th to score 5 runs and win 8-7 against the pirates
  9. ="Edgy DC":3tk9lyds]I left off at the subtitle.[/quote:3tk9lyds] I usually leave off at "by Bob Klapisch." G-Fafif Jul 11 2009 08:06 PM All teams' fans want their players named to the All-Star team and all teams' fans, I would guess, would prefer, on some level, they skip the whole thing. Maybe they should mail out certificates and call everybody back to the playground Thursday.
  10. Francoeur gets his Met career off to a nice start with a bloop single to drive in 2 runs!!
  11. oh and Google says its Catie with a "C", yes i just went looking for pictures.
  12. Berroa's ROY season 6 years ago was his only decent one.
  13. If you're worried that a poor player is going to play over a not-as-poor player, then your problem is with the manager, and has nothing to do with this trade thats true except to the extent that the front office tells the manager that they didnt acquire he guy to sit on the bench... i dont know how much relative power Jerry has there, it probably varies widely between teams.
  14. ]JUAAAAAAANNN! thats great. poor sanchez, at least the gane will be remembered for it
  15. i dont have much to add, i'll just go on record as not liking it.
  16. hate hate hate. church is just better and i dont see that changing. francoeur has done nothing but take two steps back at the plate each of last 2 years
  17. you'll find that to be one of my very few non-right-wing positions, i really never heard anything about Votto ]The CPF board has voted NOT to suspend or otherwise discipline Nymr83 for his mis-spelling of Cincinnati in the subject line of this KTE edited! ha!
  18. i'm shocked a) that it was sold and that it was only 23k in light of some of the prices they got for junk from Shea.
  19. I guess I'm just not as up to date on the love affairs of the gay community as some of you, does Votto wear Ryan Braun-approved t-shirts?
  20. Cincinnati Reds (41-42, 4th place, 4 GB) 20-20 at home, 21-22 on the road, 5-5 in their last ten, the Reds are the picture of mediocrity, but in this years National League that is all it takes to be able to call yourself a contender. C: Ramon Hernandez: .251/.329/.363 - having his usual shrug your shoulders season behind the dish. 1B: Joey Votto: .356/.442/.601 back from the DL and finding his sweet lefty stroke again, hes the key guy that Feliciano will have to get out in any big spots. 2B: Brandon Phillips: .268/.338/.475 one of the top hitting 2B in the league. SS: Alex Gonzalez: .212/.256/.302 - hes as terrible a hitter a sever, a regular David Eckstein who does very little of value and gets praised (and paid) for it. 3B: Edwin Encarnacion: .150/.284/.213- recently back off the DL and looking for his stroke, he hasnt found it yet. LF: Laynce Nix: .251/.304/.491 former Texas Ranger, hes found his way to mediocrity in a Reds uniform. CF: Willy Taveras: .244/.287/.300 another trackstar who cant do anything with the bat, think Roger Cedeno with less pop in his bat! RF: Jay Bruce: .209/.285/.444 the 23 year old has 18 homers, but thats about all he does well at the plate right now. Bench: IF Jerry Hairston: hit .258/.311/.398 in place of Encarnacion until about a week ago C Ryan Hanigan: (no relation to Alyson Hannigan of American Pie) IF Paul Janish: Ive never heard of him, have you? Has driven in 3 rbis off the bench in 82 plate appearences OF Chris Dickerson OF Jonny Gomes Rotation: The Mets will see Bronson Arroyo (8-8, 5.85) against Fernando Nieve Friday night. Emerging ace Johnny Cueto (8-5, 3.45) against Johan Santana on Saturday, in what promises to be an exciting pitchers duel (because Johan is great and anyone who faces the Mets looks great) Aaron Harang (5-8, 3.89) will go against Big Pelf on Sunday, Harang is a case study in luck as he's dropped his ERA a full run from last season without any improvement to his walk, strikeout, or hits allowed rates. The Mets will miss Micah Owings who goes tonight, Edison Volquez who is injured, and Maloney/Bailey who are filling in. Bullpen: The Reds outstanding bullpen may have pitched better than any other bullpen in the majors so far this year, the top 5 each hold an ERA+ of 160 or better in at least 30 innings each. Francisco Cordero Danny Herrera Nick Masset Arthur Rhodes Dave Weathers Carlos Fisher Josh Roenicke Ex-Mets: Weathers Ex-Reds on the Mets: None
  21. ="Benjamin Grimm":3vja7zpk]Is Cohoon the guy Ron Darling was plugging last night during the telecast?[/quote:3vja7zpk] at least Keith wasn't plugging him, he'd probably have accidentally called him "Coon" and gotten in more hot water.
  22. that d-backs team (the 2001 WS winners) seemed very top-heavy in my mind, but i'm not sure when i look at it you had Johnson and Schilling throw a combined 500 innings of 157/188 ERA+ and then a bunch of league average starts (or below) from other guys (Batista had a good ERA+ but i don't know how much of that was in his 18 starts and how much was in the 30 relief appearences) the bullpen was decent with Kim, Swinfell, Prinz, but obviously Brenly didn't trust them as he went to Batista and then Johnson in relief of Schilling in game 7 of the WS (Batista and Johnson had started games 5 and 6 respectively) on the hitting sie Gonzlez was a (steroid-infused?) monster while Grace and Sanders made big contributions, Matt Williams and Jay Bell were serviceable at the back-ends of their careers, and Tony Womack was one of the worst regulars in baseball
