  1. good pickup.
  2. Davidoff wrote: Those chances at contending, of course, have taken a hit because of the Mets' failure to sign any of the top free-agent starting pitchers this offseason There was exactly one "top" free agent starter this offseason, and the Mets chose not to make an obscene offer for his services. Everyone else was a question mark in one way or another and I'd bet that after Lackey you'd have a hard time accurately ranking their expected perfomance for the coming few years.
  3. Murphy looked pretty bad for a corner infielder (or outfielder) at the plate last year, particularly against lefties. while it would be ideal to get a better player, the Mets should at least find him a platoon partner, and i think Tatis, while maybe not the best choice, would fit the bill.
  4. I'm fine with bringing Tatis back, I'd rather see him platoon with Carter than Murphy, whom I've lost faith in.
  5. There isn't a player on that list that wouldn't help the mets on a 1 year deal.
  6. have the Mets crack medical staff, lead by Dr. Nick, give him the once over Hello everybody! who needs a cortisone shot?
  7. fuck it, i'll take the honesty. (most of) the players arent dumb enough to see through lies about the quality of their teammates anyway, this way maybe they'll believe Manuel when he says something that could be true, like "I've got alot of confidence that we'll have Beltran back soon"

  9. movie channels, on demand, amazon, hulu (though more for tv) the parents use netflix so if i really want to see something i'll have them take it out i cant remember the last time i was in a brick and mortar movie rental store, those seem to have gone near extinct.

That would most likely mean that somebody from this forum is on the mound for the Mets, so it wouldn't be all bad. I think I could walk less people than Oliver Perez and appear in more games than Ben Sheets.
  11. Getting a little out of hand here aren't we? i dont care what information reporters release about a baseball team and the teams should do a better job hiding their secrets if they care, this isnt a national security issue where the reporters should shut their mouths if they learn something they shouldnt.
  12. i liked the beard
  13. Clearly it was Omar who leaked the info to his butt-buddy Francessa who then reported back to his Yankee masters.

  15. i wouldnt have minded Garland for a year at that price.
  16. Thats my opinion.
  17. Its easy to notice someone pulling a Knoblauch and hitting Keith Olberman's mom in the stands with an errant throw, but bad range is probably a much bigger culprit in bad defenses over the course of a season and it is much harder to spot.
  18. Snyder for Green and Santos? eating 11 million seems pretty significant and i dont htink the mets should have to give up too much.
  19. No Marquis--the guy that actually wanted to be a Met! So that means overpaying for fragile Ben Sheets or signing Jon Garland or Jarrod Washburn. Marquis is an average pitcher, Sheets is an ace if healthy. Garland is just as good as Marquis, he might even be better at Citi Field because some of his (too many) homers could turn into long outs. Washburn is a pretty similiar guy as well. If you wanted Marquis I can't see why you'd be unhappy with Garland or Washburn, unless you are a graduate of Tottenville High School.
  20. Because Mauer won't do the right thing and test the market? Why is testing the market "the right thing"? what if the Twins make him an offer before free agency that he and his agent reasonably believe is better than what he'll receive later on? Matt Holliday took less than the Rockies offered him, and I'm sure he's not the only guy to ever turn down a contract only to find out that less money awaited him a year later in the market.
  21. I'm not looking to pull a 40 year old who didnt play last year out of retirement, but why does anyone dislike Edmonds? or do you all just dislike the prospect of him becoming a Met right now?
  22. of the guys currently in the organization i still think a Blanco/Coste platoon has the most to offer. I'd like Thole to play at AAA until such time as his performance demands a promotion. I don't think Santos is better than either of the other guys, but is certainly useful depth.
  23. it was a visually beautiful movie...with a script more predictable than the heroes prevailing in a saturday morning cartoon.
  24. Marty should be fired for breaking out the tired (and untrue) old writer's argument that people who use their brains (look at stats newer than batting average) must not watch enough games.
