  1. They just introduced everyone who isn't starting today, Dickey got by far the loudest applause Kiner will read the lineup Excited for baseball!
  2. BTW, for these contests, have you guys ever thought about using google docs? you can create a form and have all these questions automatically populate a spreadsheet, from where you can easily get the winners. Things I wish I'd thought of...
  3. But did Depodestanswer his question?
  4. I lost my longer answer (thanks a lot blackberry!), in short I don't blame the MLBPA one bit for looking out for its own members at the expense of others, that's what a union SHOULD do. As for the minor leaguers, I don't really know what would happen if they unionized. A lot of it probably depends on the profit margins of minor league baseball. Is it still worthwhile for MLB teams to have a bunch of affiliates if they are forced to raise salaries and benefits significantly across the board, or do they cut bait with perhaps all but one team and see if the rest can even operate profitably without MLB paying their players and some other expenses. It would certainly shake up minor league baseball, but its hard to say how. My prediction is that if they ever unionized you'd see them quickly gain an increase in salary but lose about half their jobs (through MLB immediately ending their sponsorship of half the teams - what is now the lower minors.)

  8. 70-92 last in the NL East. no playoffs
  9. the doodle thing was a good idea. i filled out my availability. i'm in if its one of those days, and you can find a replacement if its not
  10. Edgy DC wrote: For those of us who think they've really bolluxed up the system with the limitations they're placing on starting pitchers --- and the demands they're placing on relievers --- that's a sorry turn of events. It almost seems unthinkable that there wouldn't be a single active pitcher with 200, but yeah its a sign of the times and the strategy of having your best players pitch a lower percentage of your club's innings. Its arguably a stupid strategy, but its become universal.
  11. Actually saw this on twitter as Dickey posted about it the other day, said he already felt lonely as the only active knuckleballer (is that true?)
  12. ok, i'm as long as its on a night where i can make it to the auction.
  13. Can that "feature" be turned off? I don't like the idea of the league forcing you to drop your best player
  14. Prefer 5x5 over 4x4... No thanks on the more complicated system mentioned above. If I can see how my players did by looking at the box score on my phone I'm likely to be less interested as the year goes on. I'm firmly a "maybe" at this point... Waiting to see what the draft situation (logistics) will be and the keeper rules. If no keepers we should just go back for another season of yahoo instead of everyone creating an account and having a new website to check
  15. I've never done an auction online, but for a NL only league with 10 teams and 24 spots it usually takes us about 8 hours offline to do our auction.
  16. The perfect Metly solution to arguments with your significant other over whose family to spend Passover with: NEITHER!
  17. You could have an auction for the starting roster and then snake-draft the bench?
  18. Mets will be the only team in the NL East under .500
  19. Keep your ENTIRE 40-man for next year? Sign me the heck up, I love deep leagues and I love leagues with long term keeper decisions. Let's do it!
  20. I saw on twitter that he retired and the first thing I thought was how big a met-killer I remember him being... 6th in homers against and pretty good company!
  21. Edgy DC wrote: This is among Boras' shiniest moments. Got to hand it to him. Prince's mansion should have a special shrine room devoted to Scott Boras This contract is perhaps the most insane i've ever seen... does anyone think Fielder has a chance at lasting that long with his body?
  22. Why was St Louis stupid enough to build the stadium without ironclad gaurantees? If I were a municipality, I wouldnt pay for a stadium (I'd maybe go so far as to offer a tax break or supporting road improvements for privately financed one, but i'm iffy even on that), but if I were to build one, there'd be so many doomsday clauses that the franchise would be afraid to even mention moving, they'd have to gaurantee 8 home games per year for 40 years or face heavy fines if they reneg.
  23. 156 walks?? wow.
  24. I wouldn't want to go Auction unless its in-person, if its online whoever misses the draft isn't going to like the results. You can use any site you want really, if Yahoo won't carry things over we can just post the keepers here and the commish can enter them pre-draft next year. I like CBS, I've heard good things about ESPN too. I'm cool with the keeper idea, but you need a lot more rules going in (who can you keep, for how many years, are there penalties), most of all you run into arguments surrounding keeper trades (or, as the contender not being helped will call them, "Dump Deals") that are better regulated ahead of time.
  25. You take the number out of circulation so that you can take your time to figure out what you want to do. Because what you DON'T want is to hand the number to (for example) Lastings Milledge and have him turn into a homegrown all-star wearing number 8 and then you're looking to retire it for someone else. I'd open the number up now, or soon, though. Meanwhile, the news for Carter has gotten worse, they're saying today that there are new tumors and doctors are deciding whether to continue treatment.
