  1. The Sporting News??? What does the Saturday Evening Post have to say? Or how about Look magazine?
  2. WTF? The Mets are winning 4-0! Capuano, one walk and four hits through five innings.
  3. "Calm, cool reasoning."
  4. The placement of that shadow makes me think of the Red Ghost:
  5. It's not all that insightful to point out that fans of a team that has lost 12 of 14 are anticipating failure.
  6. I would have guessed it was because of Donnie Leshnock. I'm trying to remember, who was it who shared a Rookie 3B card with Mike Schmidt and Ron Cey back in 1972? I'm thinking his name was... John Hilton?
  7. Bring back Davey Johnson!
  8. I wish I had some confidence that the 2011 Jason Bay would be more like the 2009 version than the 2010 model.
  9. Beltran 2.5 Dickey 1.5 Isringhausen 1 Murphy 2.5 Reyes 2.5
  10. Voting for Tuesday night's loss to the Astros at Citi Field will close on Friday morning. Schaefer POTG 4/19/11 - Astros 6, Mets 1
  11. soupcan wrote: Maybe not to Dodger fans and the general public but it is to Mets fans. I agree with that. I don't give a rat's ass what happens to the Dodgers. My only interest in this is if it has anything to do with the Mets future.
  12. I have a script that calculates the Schaefer Mets Player of the Week (weeks end on Saturday) but I often forget to look at it. Anyway, for the two weeks completed so far, the winners are: Week ending 2011-04-09: Ike Davis 5.61 points Week ending 2011-04-16: Jos Reyes 7.14 points
  13. The tension was a lot higher in the NLCS, which made the games all the more memorable. I liked how, last night, Bob Ojeda came out and said what I don't think was ever acknowledged before, when he said to Keith, "You guys (meaning the hitters on the Mets) were afraid of* Mike Scott." *or did he say "worried about"? Either way, Scott had worked his way into their brains. We all knew it, even then, but I don't think it's ever been stated so flatly by a member of the team before.
  14. No, I don't think Terry is in any immediate danger. But I remember last year, every time* we revived the Jerry Manual deathwatch, the Mets would go on an eight-game winning streak. Just trying to capture some of that "mojo". * Well, really, twice.
  15. Yeah. Publishing "No-show" statistics could be very embarrassing at time.
  16. Which reminds me... I'm getting awfully tired of Kevin Burkhardt paraphrasing in the first person. Last night he did it again, talking about Scott Hairston and his comments about bats made of ash, maple, and birch. A few times during that segment, Kevin would switch between perspectives; "I" would go from meaning, "I, Scott Hairston" to "I, Kevin Burkhardt" and back again.
  17. Does that mean Bay is activated for tonight? I was wondering who they would send down to make room, and I had completely forgotten about Misch.
  18. Holy cow... I thought you were kidding about that "blah blah blah" stuff, until I clicked on the link. (My print edition of the News didn't include this story.) Sheesh!
  19. I'm too much of a Marvel guy. I'll always think of the more obscure Nighthawk before I'll think of Hawkman. And I always liked the way the Hulk referred to Nighthawk when they were Defenders together.
  20. True. I'll keep watching. But there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that things are looking dire.
  21. I agree that the "optimism" shtick is more than played out, but do I suspect that the Mets are a better team than we've seen. But they've been so bad that even hoping for mediocrity at this point seems far fetched. Maybe at best, they'll win 75 games, and that's not nearly enough. Citi Field is going to be very quiet and empty after Labor Day, and probably not very noisy at all throughout the season.
