  1. Is it too much to ask R.A. Dickey to throw a no-hitter? I have a feeling it's not gonna be another 50 years until the next one. It would be hilarious if it only took 24 hours.
  2. Santana 6 Duda 3 Baxter 1
  3. metirish wrote: Duda with a three run home run....wow.. the other stuff is unmentionable You mean the no-hitter Johan has through six innings?
  4. Adam Rubin wrote: Chris Schwinden will vacate one of the two roster spots that need to be opened for the promotion of right-handed reliever Elvin Ramirez and activation of catcher Josh Thole from the disabled list, a major league source told ESPNNewYork.com. Schwinden was placed on waivers by the Mets on Thursday, the source said. That maneuver would free a 40-man roster spot for Ramirez. The 25-year-old Schwinden is 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA in 8 2/3 innings at the major league level this season. He has made three appearances (two starts). The Mets still will need to free a 25-man roster spot for Thole. Assuming the Mets do not go with three catchers -- which would not seem the likelihood -- Mike Nickeas would appear far more vulnerable than Rob Johnson for a demotion.
  5. Geez, all he was saying is that the Mets have been less than completely horrible.
  6. I think the Mets have the edge in the cap thing at this point (assuming, of course , that there will be a plaque to put that cap on) but if he wins an MVP and a couple of World Series with the Cardinals that may change. Does Kansas City have a shot?
  7. I put my threshold at 73 wins. Losing fewer than 90 games makes the season at least a little bit less than horrible.
  8. It will be interesting to see what the Mets 2013 rotation will look like.
  9. Voting for Wednesday night's loss to the Phillies will close some time over the weekend. This will also close out the month of May. Schaefer POTG 5/30/12 - Phillies 10, Mets 6 Also... the Mets will now have two players with the last name of Ramirez. In future games, please remember to vote for "RRamirez" for Ramon or "ERamirez" for Elvin.
  10. The 1 point awarded to "Rodriguez" by Ashie was discarded because the Mets don't currently have a player with that name.
  11. I was at the second game of the season at Citi Field. Haven't been back since, but I may go to one more game this year. Probably not two more.
  12. But not for everyone else.
  13. Yeah, but I just don't see that it's likely that the conventional wisdom will be overturned any time soon.
  14. The best solution would involve pretending that Tony Larussa and Dennis Eckersley never existed.
  15. I think (hope) that they'll get it done over the coming offseason. I think he wants to stay. I think they want to keep him. I think they're feeling less squeezed financially. (Although who knows for sure?) Hopefully the Mets will continue to play well. In the pre-season predictions thread I picked the team to have winning records in May and June and then a death-spiral in August and September. I think avoiding a horrific end to the season may be the most important thing. If the season ends on a toxic note, David's eye may start to wander. On the other hand, a good sustained run at the playoffs, even if they fall short, may give him a sense of unfinished business, and a reminder of how great it can be to have success in New York.
  16. I've probably posted this analogy before, but I'll do it again anyway. When my parents still lived in the house that I grew up in, when I'd visit them I felt like I was going home. Now they live in a different house. When I visit them, I'm going to a familiar, comfortable, and friendly place, but it's not home. I don't live in New York anymore, and I'll never go to as many games at Citi Field as I went to at Shea. Citi Field, at best, will be like my parents' current house. In the later years, a big part of the draw for me in going to Shea was that feeling of connection to my past. I can understand that those of you who haven't left New York probably don't feel that way, but for me, yes, Shea became part of the draw. A fairly big part.
  17. Through 51 games, the Mets, when they win, win by an average margin of 2.785714 runs. And when they lose, they lose by an average of 4.434783 runs.
  18. Duda 3.5 Gee 3.5 Hairston 1 Murphy 1 Torres 1
  19. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week ending April 14: Jon Niese, 6.63 points. Week ending April 21: Mike Pelfrey, 7.85 points. Week ending April 28: Lucas Duda, 8.00 points. Week ending May 5: Johan Santana, 5.71 points. Week ending May 12: David Wright, 8.95 points. Week ending May 19: David Wright, 6.76 points. Week ending May 26: David Wright, 6.66 points. Voting for Monday's loss to the Phillies will close on Friday morning. Schaefer POTG 5/28/12 - Phillies 8, Mets 4 Oh... and Tuesday's game too! Schaefer POTG 5/29/12 - Mets 6, Phillies 3
  20. Andres Torres' total of 0.02 points averaged down to zero, so he does not appear among the results.
