  1. The Daily News has a new contest promotion, where the winner can win an "ultimate baseball vacation" in... Fargo, North Dakota? WTF? How many New Yorkers dream of going to North Dakota to see minor league baseball? (Confession: I wouldn't at all mind winning that trip, but still, it seems very strange seeing these full-page promotions in a New York paper.)
  2. I got an e-mail from somebody asking if I could help identify this signature on an unnumbered Mets jersey. Anyone recognize it?
  3. Okay, the baseball viewpoint: Santana may be gone before July 31.
  4. They'd move him to free up millions of dollars, not because of the player they'd get back.
  5. Wright 4 Dickey 3 Torres 1 Tejada 1 Davis 1
  6. Yeah! Stupid fucktards!
  7. I didn't know they were playing a day game today! Nice to see them ahead 5 to 1, especially since I didn't know they were playing!
  8. Gonna rewatch Batman Begins tonight, and Dark Knight tomorrow and probably see Rises over the weekend. Begins didn't do much for me the first time around, but I really liked the second movie a lot, so I'm looking forward to giving it another shot.
  9. If they could trade Bay and Santana they'd free up a lot of spending cash. Bay will be impossible to trade -- I suspect he'll be released before the end of spring training next year -- but I bet if they floated Santana over the next week or so they'd find some interest. Of course, that means a big step back for the remainder of 2012, but the way they've been playing lately they're looking less and less like they'll be serious contenders.
  10. Voting for Tuesday night's loss to the Nationals will close on Friday morning. Schaefer POTG 7/17/12 - Nationals 5, Mets 4 (10 Innings)
  11. Box score Bay 2 Rauch 1 Torres 1 Wright 3 Young 3

  13. Please make sure it's just for today.
  14. Niese 5 Valdespin 3 Thole 1.5 Murphy 0.5
  15. For the last few Marvel movies, I've been there opening night. (Iron Man 1 and 2, Hulk, Cap, Thor, Avengers.) But this one... not yet. Still plan to see it, but I don't feel much enthusiasm.
  16. I've read a few times that Harvey's pitch selection needs some maturing. Isn't the solution to not have him call his pitches? Let Thole or Warthen do it?
  17. It probably doesn't help that their PA announcer makes everyone think they're at a wrestling match.
  18. Voting for all three games played in the Atlanta over the past weekend will close on Wednesday afternoon. Schaefer POTG 7/13/12 - Braves 7, Mets 5 Schaefer POTG 7/14/12 - Braves 8, Mets 7 Schaefer POTG, 07/15/2012 Atlanta 6, Mets 1
  19. Okay... he seems vaguely familiar. At least he's not this guy:
  20. Yeah, this is as do-or-die as it gets in July. The Mets need to reverse their losing trend NOW or things will start to look really grim.
  21. Vic Sage wrote: from what i've read and heard, Marvel is not talking about the classic Gene Colan GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY from the 60s (with Charlie-27, Vance Astro, Yondu and Starhawk), but their reboot of a few years ago I wasn't aware that there had been a recent reboot. The tree guy looks interesting, I guess, but they should lose the raccoon. (Is he an actual Marvel character, or is this the influence of Disney? He looks like the little guy who was friends with Pocahontas. Maybe they can get the hummingbird to join the Guardians as well.) I heard that there was an announcement an Comic Con that the Fox is going with a Fantastic Four reboot by the guy who recently did Chronicle. Sounds like good news to me. An earlier rumor had them going with the Heroes guy, which didn't make me very happy.
  22. The biggest surprise is Guardians of the Galaxy. My son and I have been hoping for Black Panther.
