  1. I think the key to this game is to have our starting pitcher go more than five innings, and give up fewer than seven runs.
  2. Granderson 2 Lagares 1 Wright 0.4
  3. HahnSolo wrote: '98 I don't think is right. Matt Franco had a hit in that game, but not John. Great work though. Nice catch, thanks. That was Matt Franco in the table, but the database incorrectly had him flagged as a pitcher. It's been fixed; the actual first Mets pitcher to get a hit in 1998 was Dave Mlicki, in the fourth game of the season.
  4. Ultimate Mets Database Facebook page wrote: Twenty-seven games into the season, and the Mets have yet to have any of their pitchers get a base hit. This is the first time that the Mets have made it to May without a pitcher getting a hit. The longest previous season-opening drought was in 2005 when Victor Zambrano (remember him?) had a fifth-inning triple on April 19 in Philadelphia in the 14th game of the season.
  5. I hereby give my permission to any Twitter users in the audience to tweet the above to Gary Cohen. Giving credit to the UMDB would be nice, but not necessary.
  6. Previously, the deepest the Mets ever went into a season without a pitcher getting a hit was 14 games in 2005. That year, Victor Zambrano was the guy who broke the streak, getting a hit on April 19. The latest calendar date that saw the first Mets pitcher get a hit was 1995, when the season was delayed by a strike. Bret Saberhagen got a base hit on April 28, in the third game of the season. Other years where the Mets went ten or more games before a pitcher got a hit were in 1997 and 2009. 8. Voting for the Mets' win over the Phillies on Tuesday night will close some time over the weekend, but no earlier than 10 a.m. on Saturday. Schaefer POTG 4/29/14 - Mets 6, Phillies 1
  9. Day 1, 05/01/2014. Starting outfield: Granderson, Lagares, Chris Young. Sitting: Eric Young (1).
  10. Hey! What happens in the BJ's Clubhouse STAYS in the BJ's Clubhouse!
  11. So Eric Young is the first outfielder to sit out a dance now that the four-man rotation is in effect.
  12. When did this become a thing? Years ago, the stands were never full of people wearing replica jerseys and now they're all over the place.
  13. Wally Backman did some math (and I double-checked it) and he said that in a week with seven games, one player can start six times and the other three can get five starts.
  14. I remember in 2012 thinking that the Mets were playing over their heads. I'm not feeling that so much this year. A while ago I said that this might turn out to be a 1984 kind of year for the Mets, and maybe it will.
  15. T.h.a.n.k. y.o.u. m.e.t.b.o.t.! Bumping this now that this thread has advanced to a new page: Zvon, for more information about how all this works, check out this page and this page. That second link will be seven years old in a few days, but it's still relevant. A couple of other points: When voting for Eric or Chris Young, CYoung and EYoung are preferred. C. Young and E. Young will also work, but it's better without the dot. But please include the first initial! When I spot some voting for just "Young" I have to nag them to edit their vote. Also, d'Arnaud is preferred to dArnaud. (Thanks!) The most frequently misspelled names so far this year are Nieuwenhuis (not suprisingly) and Tejada and Farnsworth. I think the name that, historically, had the most challenging spelling was Francoeur, but that hasn't come up recently! Thanks to everyone who's been participating, and especially to those who have been starting the voting threads. We're almost at the end of the first month of the season. Look for the announcement of the April award winners some time over the weekend. (Tuesday night's game still needs to be tallied.) SCHAEFER METS PLAYER OF THE WEEK, 2014 Week ending April 5: Juan Lagares, 5.68 points. Week ending April 12: Eric Young, 4.89 points. Week ending April 19: David Wright, 5.25 points. Week ending April 26: Lucas Duda, 5.22 points.
  16. No biggie! You've been properly identifying your Youngs, and that's much appreciated!
  17. Is that... Lloyd Lindsey Young?
  18. Thanks guys. I'm hoping to get the new members into the voting thing and a lil clarification of what we do here can't hurt. 19. It's bad enough that people laugh at the Mets, but now even dogs are laughing at the Mets? When I first got the e-mail from the Mets, the 14-year-old in me was about to unthinkingly sign up. But then this seemed too similar to the recent stories about Jews being forced to register in the Ukraine. Sure that turned out to be a hoax (I hope!), but it sounded scary and nefarious. So after giving this a quick second thought, I saw this as more desperate and creepy than "patriotic." So, no, I'm not going to "register" as a Mets fan.
