  1. With Edgy pointing out how poorly den Dekker has done so far for the Mets this year, I decided to check in on Cesar Puello, to see if he's an option for a call up. Doesn't look that way. At Las Vegas this year he's .219/.312/.298. 57 games, 1 homer, 2 triples, 7 doubles in 203 plate appearances. 7 steals in 8 attempts.
  2. PLEASE REMEMBER TO INCLUDE THE FIRST INITIAL WHEN VOTING FOR ERIC YOUNG OR CHRIS YOUNG. Box score Colon 5.5 Eveland 0.5 Flores 0.8 Wright 1.1 EYoung 2.1
  3. Bartolo: 86 pitches through 8 innings.
  4. If you really want to feel sleazy, check out the BJ's Clubhouse.
  5. Bartolo: Only 76 pitches through 7 innings. I'd like to see him finish this game.
  6. Meanwhile, I think I spotted "Ticket Oak" on the season finale of Game of Thrones the other night.

I expect so. This season I bought tickets for games in Pittsburgh and Seattle, and as a result I've been getting e-mails from the Pirates and the Mariners that are very similar to those I've been getting from the Mets. At least, judging from the subject line; I've been deleting them unread.
  10. Talking about Tony Pena and strikeouts reminds me of a fun baseball memory from the 1980's: seeing Dwight Gooden strike out Tony Pena. It seemed that Doc would have him totally off balance; I distinctly remember seeing Pena laughing at his futility. So I looked it up: in his time with the Mets, Gooden fanned Pena 13 times in 39 at bats. Gooden never walked Pena, but Pena did manage four singles and one triple. .128/.128/.180. Pena's strikeout percentage, if such a thing exists, is .333.
  11. Voting for last Thursday's loss to the Brewers will close on Wednesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 6/12/14 - Brewers 5, Mets 1 (13 Innings)

  13. DeGrom might be the fifth best hitter in this lineup.
  14. John Tudor for the Red Sock-Pirate-Cardinal?
  15. And Better Davis than Bette Davis.
  16. Fernando Valenzuela?
  17. I'll start with Dwight Gooden.

  19. Voting for the game the Mets lost to the Brewers last Wednesday will close on Tuesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 6/11/14 - Brewers 3, Mets 1
  20. If Matsuzaka is going to have to miss time, who replaces him in the rotation until Gee gets back? Eveland?
  21. I don't know how you get a guy to start throwing fewer pitches. You can ask him to pitch to contact, but that can have disastrous results. Just about every start seems to be a struggle for Zack. My expectations for him have lowered somewhat, but he's still a young pitcher and he may need another season or two to find his footing. (I remember how bad guys like Craig Swan and Mike Scott looked in their early years.)
