  1. They've had a Kids Club for a while now, but I wasn't aware that they had a grown-up version as well.
  2. John Maine is the son of... John Maine, who pitched for the Marion and Visalia Mets in 1970.
  3. MFS62 was listing sons who played for the Mets.
  4. Roberto Alomar. Brian McRae. Eric Young...
  5. Maybe they figure there's value in keeping as many players as possible who were teammates of Derek Jeter.
  6. Ceetar wrote: This isn't some pinnacle of humanity inducting humans into some pillar of humanity, they're just people picking great players. I just think it's ridiculous to assert that someone would have trouble being selected because they're Catholic or Republican.
  7. Why would writers not vote for him because of his politics or his faith? I know he's a devout Catholic. I don't see why that would be controversial. Is anyone afraid that he would be a pawn of the pope at the annual Cooperstown gatherings? And what are his politics anyway? Republican, I guess? I doubt he'd be the first, or even the two hundredth, Republican in the Hall.
  8. "Pedro Martinez's first-ballot selection to the Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to his illustrious career," said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon. "During his time with us he brought an air of professionalism to the field and to the locker room and was a source of excitement for our fans. We want to congratulate, Pedro, his wife Carolina and the rest of the Martinez family on his historic day."

I do think he belongs, but to be honest, the Hall of Fame has come to mean very little to me. I'd almost like to see them purge the entire membership, set more specific criteria, and then start repopulating the Hall.
  10. I think I'd rather watch Nineteen Kids and Counting than any of these Hobbit movies. And I despise Nineteen Kids and Counting!
  11. Teams don't cover the fundamentals anymore. It's nice to see that, in the old days, they included drills that allow players to be prepared in case they're diving into second base and find that there's a toucan on the bag. (I'm not sure what I would do in that situation. Maybe I'd offer the bird some Froot Loops?)
  12. This thread has gotten rather large too. Let's continue this conversation in a 2015 thread.
  13. I think it's time to lock this thread and let it drift into the archives. Please paste any additional posts in a "Butterball 2015" thread.
  14. It would be nice if it could be Gee plus someone else, but I have no idea what Tampa might want.
  15. Also, alphabetically speaking, Don Zimmer has been the last Met on the list since April 11, 1962. Ben Zobrist would end that very long streak.
  16. He's in his free agent walk year, correct? I would imagine that if the Mets traded for him, it would be as a one-year rental. If the Mets really are in go-for-it mode, then getting a one-year shortstop isn't such a bad idea. I have no idea what the Mets would have to give up to get Zobrist. I imagine it would be less than Noah Syndergaard, but more than Dillon Gee.
  17. Of course, the downside of that would be having Jeff Wilpon for a father-in-law. Try not to get his daughter pregnant before you marry her. I hear he doesn't like that.
  18. His daughter is cute. Maybe we should make a long-term plan... have one of our single CPF members marry Miss Wilpon and eventually take over the Mets.

  21. I'm certain I didn't see ten movies in theaters this year. Those I did see were: Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, X-Men, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Lucy, and Gone With the Wind. There might be one or two others, but I really think that's it.
  22. Sure, why not? As we learned with Francisco Rodriguez, Citi Field has a jail cell.
  23. Well, thanks. It's been nine years; the swelling in my head has mostly subsided by now.
  24. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: That's great. Who churned that one out, way back when? That was me; it was my winning entry in the final round of my improbable victory in the 2005 song parody contest.
