  2. My vote is Murphy to third, Flores to second, Tejada to short. I'm okay with them bringing up Campbell, but, maybe if not for the 40-man roster issue, I'd have gone with Reynolds. Same scenario as above, but with Reynolds at shortstop.
  3. Voting for the entire weekend series in Atlanta will close on Wednesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 4/10/15 - Braves 5, Mets 3 Schaefer POTG 04/11/2015: Atlanta 5, Mets 3 Schaefer POTG 4/12/15 - Mets 4, Braves 3
  4. I wasn't familiar with this "roll call" thing. It sounds pretty stupid. And if it's a Yankee thing, then it is definitely stupid.
  5. Blevins 1 Cuddyer 1 deGrom 3.5 Familia 1 Lagares 1 Murphy 1.5 CTorres 1
  6. Voting for last Thursday afternoon's win in Washington will close on Tuesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 4/9/15 - Mets 6, Nationals 3

I would guess this statement can have some veracity. The list of banned things is long, including some things that are generally available, including through "legitimate" sources (GNC, etc) and prescriptions, and marketed under different names. Especially for a guy living in a foreign country and speaking a different language, formal systems for cross-checking with the team everything you put in or on you is key, but challenging. One man's wistriol is another man's "super ketchup." I agree with that. Mejia may very well have taken these pills (they are pills, aren't they) without knowing what they were. But it's his responsibility to know what he's taking, and if he needs a trusted translator to help him with that, again, it's on him. The only way I would absolve him of responsibility is if Hostess, for example, announced that Stanozolol has been a secret ingredient in Twinkies, and Mejia has been eating 15 to 20 Twinkies per day.

  9. With insincere apologies to Derek Jeter, the Yankees top four has to be Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle.
  10. "Duda" is also a trucking company in Poland. I remember seeing their trucks on the German highways when I was there in 2013. And Andrzej Duda is a candidate for president of Poland! Oh, and "Swoboda" is a manufacturer of German auto parts.
  11. Box score Duda 1.5 Gilmartin 1 ATorres 0.5
  12. Gilmartin 0.6 Goeddel 1 Mayberry 1 Niese 1 Wright 1
  13. The Mets should totally lure Derek Jeter out of retirement just for one day so that he can have the honor of being the 1000th Met. I'm sure everyone here would agree with that!
  14. Voting for Wednesday night's loss to the Nationals will close some time over the weekend, but not before noon on Saturday. Schaefer POTG 4/8/15 - Nationals 2, Mets 1
  15. d'Arnaud 2 Cuddyer 1 Harvey 4 Murphy 1 Wright 2
  16. And maybe they can't count on enough people taking a day off on a weekday in order to attend a baseball game.
  17. 4.2 innings. 72 pitches. It looks like he'll get the five innings he needs for a win. Maybe they'll let him start the sixth, and if it's a quick inning he'll finish, but I can't see him going into the seventh.
  18. might be better to code something to parse the data directly: http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2015/month_04/day_08/gid_2015_04_08_nynmlb_wasmlb_1/boxscore.xml That's interesting. I may play around with that a bit. Thanks. I did come up with another solution; I was able to revise my code to parse the box score from Baseball Reference.
  19. For the last couple of years, I was pasting box scores from The Sporting News' web site as the basis for the UMDB box scores. I had to find a new source this year because TSN continues to dumb itself down. Check this out: http://sportingnews.hosted.core.optasports.com/?sport=baseball&page=match&id=44729 Is this the worst box score ever? It doesn't tell you what position anyone played. It doesn't list any extra-base hits. Did they determine at some point over the winter that people want less information in their box scores? It's been more than twenty years since The Sporting News stopped taking itself seriously, and I still find it hard to believe. Why and how is The Sporting News even still a thing?
  20. I got an e-mail asking me to vote for the Mets "Franchise Four". I'm not sure exactly what this is, but I voted for Seaver, Hernandez, Piazza, and Wright.
