Yoenis Cespedes is hit in the hand by a pitch in Philadelphia, but no bones are broken. Steven Matz continues to be plagued by his sleep injury. Max Scherzer no-hits the Mets. The Mets look ahead to their NLDS matchup against the Dodgers. Matt Harvey misses a mandatory workout. The Daily News takes a look at Yoenis Cespedes' home town in Cuba. Jacob deGrom will start the NLDS opener in Los Angeles.
  2. The apostrophe represents the missing G. Just like in "don't" the apostrophe represents the missing O.
  3. d'Kong76 wrote: Ass, Soaked, Beasts this Turkey Day. Is that the way you voted, or is that what's going to be on your holiday dinner table? "Ass soaked beast" sounds pretty tasty, but on Thanksgiving I tend to prefer a more typical turkey with stuffing and cranberry sauce.
  4. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Innings-limited Matt Harvey comes out of a game after five, and the Yankees beat the Mets. Mets close in on the division title. Mets clinch the National League East! Steven Matz injures himself by sleeping funny.
  5. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Yoenis Cespedes helps the Mets complete their sweep of the Nationals. The Mets winning streak ends as the Marlins beat Jacob deGrom. Cespedes is feeling right at home in New York. Steven Matz is ready to return from the disabled list. The Mets beat the Yankees, putting a dent in their playoff hopes.
  6. All eight polls from Round One, Group Two have now closed, and we can now reveal the second group of eight covers that will advance to the second round. The Daily News repeated its Group One success, once again winning four of the eight contests. The New York Post improved its count from the previous group, going from two winning covers to three. The Post's gain came at Newsday's expense, with the Long Island paper dropping from two winning covers in Group One to only one in Group Two. 7. This tiebreaker poll has ended, and the Steven Matz cover has won and will advance to Round 2. There's another potential tie shaping up in this thread. If you haven't voted yet, please consider doing so!
  8. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Matt Harvey announces his intention to pitch in the playoffs, despite the innings limit suggested by his agent. In a key series in Washington, the Mets rally to win the first game, then stage a dramatic comeback to win the second game.
  9. What about Wheeler for Gonzalez? I thought of him when I realized that Wheeler only gets traded for guys named "Carlos".
  10. If the Mets are going to trade Harvey, I'd want them to get a position player who's under 30 and has at least three, and preferably four, years of team control ahead of him. And of course, he'd have to be really really good as well.
  11. Rod Carew needs a heart transplant.
  12. Craig Swan would have fit this criteria except for a few innings pitched for the California Angels. These are the Mets who have appeared in 100 or more games without ever having played for another team. The only prominent starting pitchers are Niese and Gee, and their careers, of course, are still in progress. Ed Kranepool 1853 David Wright 1546 Daniel Murphy 903 Ron Hodges 666 Lucas Duda 638 Ruben Tejada 580 Pedro Feliciano 463 Bruce Boisclair 410 Juan Lagares 380 Rod Kanehl 340 Bobby Parnell 316 Jeff Innis 288 Ron Gardenhire 285 Wilmer Flores 242 Travis d'Arnaud 206 Bob Apodaca 184 Jon Niese 180 Kelvin Chapman 172 Jeurys Familia 169 Eric Campbell 156 Dave Schneck 143 Al Moran 135 Josh Satin 116 Josh Edgin 114 Jenrry Mejia 111 Dillon Gee 109 George Theodore 105 Rick Baldwin 105 Scott Rice 102
  13. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Two bearded Mets pitchers get pounded in a loss to the Phillies. Ruben Tejada hits an inside-the-park homer at Citi Field, but Matt Harvey is ailing and Daniel Murphy is hurt. Scott Boras says that Harvey should be limited to 180 innings and be withheld from the playoffs. The Mets don't agree. Harvey has a difficult time figuring out what to say about all this.
  14. He must have done something! He managed to earn 0.32 Schaefer points in 2009.
  15. I don't think so either, but the Mets should be open to the idea anyway.
  16. There is a plan in place in case that happens.
  17. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Bartolo Colon gives the Mets their sixth straight win and puts the Mets 6½ games ahead of the Nationals. A 13th-inning RBI by Daniel Murphy gives the Mets a sweep in Philadelphia. The Mets encounter some bullpen troubles against the Red Sox. Colon beats the Phillies again to close out August.
  18. Nope. Surprisingly, the Mets didn't make the covers of any of the tabloids during that span. There was a lot of Yankees pages instead.
  19. I voted for the deGrom cover. It's a more interesting photo (I think) and a better layout. Matz is half obscured by the headline, while with deGrom, only a part of his right leg is covered.
  20. I know that I had originally said that there would be no first-round tiebreakers, but now that a poll has actually ended in a tie, the big shots in Stockholm are apparently getting jittery, so word came down that there was a change in policy. This tie-breaker poll will run for three days. Our first tiebreaker pits two Newsday covers against each other. Please vote for the cover you like best.
  21. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Yoenis Cespedes homers three times and the Mets lead over Washington extends to five games. Mets score 14 runs in Denver to defeat the Rockies. Logan Verrett, filling in for Matt Harvey, delivers a win in Colorado. David Wright returns from the disabled list and homers against the Phillies. The Mets set a record by hitting eight home runs in a single game. Larry Bowa gets pissed off at Daniel Murphy.
  22. If Steven Matz did that lying-down-on-the-ice thing he'd be on the disabled list for eight weeks.
  23. I think the first time I saw him being interviewed it was on Mets Hot Stove, after spring training had started. Kevin Burkhardt, I think, was talking to Noah in Port St. Lucie and Noah said that he was planning on shedding some tears when How I Met Your Mother went off the air. It sounds like he's recovered fairly well.
  24. Ceetar wrote: Hot in Miami! you see? because the Mets are 'hot' in the sense that they keep winning and Miami is a traditionally hot place? HOW CLEVER. I think you've already amply demonstrated your superior attitude in regard to these covers.
