I voted Like, but here are some reasons that I think might cause someone to vote thumbs down: * The Mets are depleting their pitching depth. * It blocks Dilson Herrera. * Three years of Niese were swapped for only one year of Walker. * It means Daniel Murphy won't be coming back.
  2. Like; Eh wasn't a choice. I think that this is the "Eh" choice: I am indifferent toward this deal.
  3. . Winner of Round 1.2.8 Winner of Round 2.2.3 "U" DA MAN! New York Daily News, July 27, 2015 A walk-off hit from Juan Uribe in the 10th inning gives the Mets a win over the Dodgers. Winner of Round 1.2.5 Winner of Round 2.2.2 NIEUW'S FLASH! New York Post, July 13, 2015 Kirk Nieuwenhuis becomes the first Met ever to hit three home runs in a home game, in a 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks. . . . . . .
  4. With the close of all voting for Round 2.3, we now have twelve of the qualifiers for the Sweet Sixteen. It was a strong round for the Post, with three winning covers. The Daily News got one win, and Newsday was shut out. The total number of Round 2 winners to date include six from the Post, four from the News, and two from Newsday. Poll 2.3.1 AS GOOD AS IT METS (New York Post) defeated WRIGHT OFF THE BAT! (Newsday) 9 to 7. Poll 2.3.2 LARGE & IN CHARGE (New York Post) defeated INSIDE EDITION (Newsday) 11 to 5. Poll 2.3.3 YES-PEDES (Daily News) defeated THE HIGH LIFE (Daily News) 12 to 3. Poll 2.3.4 CAPITAL THRILL! (New York Post) defeated TEARS TO CHEERS! (New York Post) 8 to 7. Tentative schedule: December 25: YES-PEDES vs. LARGE & IN CHARGE December 26: CAPITAL THRILL! vs. AS GOOD AS IT METS And thus comes to a close the storied run of the Girl in the Golden Dress. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
  5. Only one Met has ever had a walk-off triple, Cleon Jones on September 10, 1970. The Mets have lost twice on walk-off triples: Lee May of the Reds on June 24, 1968 and Jack Clark of the Giants on June 19, 1980.
  6. Buster Olney says one year, $4.5 million for De Aza.
  7. Would this mean they'd no longer be interested in Span? Or might they sign both of these guys?
  8. Gary Cohen has his dream job. They'll have to pry that microphone out of his cold dead hands. As for Keith, I think he enjoys his job and I also think he enjoys complaining about his job. I expect he'll be back, but part of the deal might include an obligation to do fewer games.
  9. I liked N.Y. CITI a lot more in the earlier rounds. I don't think I looked at it all that closely. I had thought that Granderson was photoshopped to be a monstrous presence looming over Citi Field. But now I see that it's just a picture of him in the batting cage with an image of the stadium pasted over the bottom portion of the image. Curtis makes for good covers though. His face is very expressive, at least when he's on the field. It's a different story when he's being interviewed. Then he always has that "everything's cool" crooked smile. So N.Y. CITI still gets my vote.
  10. Bob Raissman mentioned it in his Daily News column a few days ago: Mets fans getting anxious over Keith Hernandez's contract talks with SNY
  11. . Winner of Round 1.1.1 Winner of Round 2.1.4 N.Y. CITI New York Post, February 25, 2015 In spring training, Curtis Granderson says that the Mets are ready to take over the town. Winner of Round 1.1.8 Winner of Round 2.1.1 THOR'S DAY Newsday, May 28, 2015 Noah Syndergaard pitches 7.1 scoreless innings and homers in a 7-0 win over the Phillies at Citi Field. . . . . . .
  12. I mostly remember him for his quote about Bill Pecota.
  13. . Winner of Round 1.1.6 Winner of Round 2.1.2 RUNAWAY TRAIN! New York Post, April 24, 2015 The Mets, riding an eleven-game winning streak, head to the Bronx to play three games against the Yankees. Winner of Round 1.1.3 Winner of Round 2.1.3 OLD TIMER'S DAY Newsday, March 23, 2015 Bartolo Colon is announced as the Mets Opening Day starter. . . . . . .
  14. . Winner of Round 1.4.6 TEAM OF DESTINY New York Daily News, October 27, 2015 With the World Series about to begin, the Daily News publishes a special wraparound cover. Tiebreaker Winner of Round 1.4.5 HOW SWEEP IT IS! Newsday, October 22, 2015 The Mets complete their four-game sweep of the Cubs in the NLCS to win their fifth National League championship. . . . . . .
  15. This poll offers the yin and the yang of Daniel Murphy. I voted for the yin.
  16. . Winner of Round 1.4.8 MURPHY'S FLAW Newsday, November 1, 2015 An error by Daniel Murphy opens the door for the Royals to win Game 4 of the World Series. Winner of Round 1.4.3 DAN-TASTIC New York Daily News, October 16, 2015 A heads-up baserunning play by Daniel Murphy gives the Mets a series-clinching win in Game 5 of the NLDS in L.A. . . . . . .
  17. Voting for Round 2.2 is now complete. The Daily News won three of the four polls, going 3-1 this round. The Post won the fourth slot, but also had two losses. Newsday came up empty, with one loss. Eight covers have now qualified for the Sweet Sixteen: Three each from the News and the Post and two from Newsday. Poll 2.2.1 AMAZIN' MATZ! (Daily News) defeated JAKE & BAKE (New York Post) 7 to 4. Poll 2.2.2 NIEUW'S FLASH! (New York Post) defeated OH, BABY! (Daily News) 8 to 4. Poll 2.2.3 "U" DA MAN! (Daily News) defeated HARV DAY'S NIGHT (New York Post) 15 to 1. Poll 2.2.4 CON4TO! (Daily News) defeated AMAZIN' MATZ (Newsday) 14 to 1. Tentative schedule: December 23: "U" DA MAN! vs.NIEUW'S FLASH! December 24: CON4TO! vs. AMAZIN' MATZ! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
  18. . Tiebreaker Winner of Round 1.4.1 HAIR'S LOOKIN' AT YOU, KID New York Post, October 9, 2015 Jacob deGrom gets the first starting assignment of the postseason, Game 1 of the NLDS in Los Angeles. Winner of Round 1.4.4 APPLE JACKS! New York Post, October 18, 2015 Home runs by the Mets raise the Citi Field apple as the Mets take NLCS Game 1 from the Cubs. . . . . . .
  19. It's more of a promise of intent than an ironclad guarantee.
  20. Edgy MD wrote: How about wasting most of the bottom half of the front page with black ink? Yeah, I don't like that either. I voted for the Post page, though, because flawed as it is, it's better than the News page. I think David Wright should be on the left side of the page and THE SHIP! should be on the right. I don't like how David is facing the edge of the page.

  22. . Winner of Round 1.4.2 METS TAKE A HIT New York Post, October 11, 2015 Chase Utley breaks Ruben Tejada's leg when sliding into second base, and the Mets lose Game 2 of the NLDS to the Dodgers. Winner of Round 1.4.7 WRIGHTS THE SHIP! New York Daily News, October 31, 2015 A home run by David Wright helps the Mets to a much-needed win in Game 3 of the World Series. . . . . . .
  23. I don't see how $7 million is "piddling". It's a decent chunk of a $105 million payroll.
  24. Gwreck wrote: Who is Derek Jeter? Apparently some guy who doesn't like gay underwear. (Or so he says.) Me, I'm a little surprised to learn that Pete Rose's body is covered with reptilian scales.
  25. Ceetar wrote: eh, it's just money. Have you been paying ANY attention at all? Do you somehow still cling to the notion that the Mets have an unlimited budget?
