Tabloid Cover Derby 2018 (Year Four!)
Benjamin Grimm replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
Three more first-round winners: The Daily News has now opened the Tabloid Cover Derby with a six-poll winning streak. Panic is beginning to be sensed in the dugouts of the Post and Newsday. Each of these covers will advance, either to the second round or directly to the third round, depending on their final ranking after all polls have closed. The ranking of our six winners so far is: 1. MATT OUTTA HELL (Daily News) 2. There IS crying in baseball (Daily News) 3. MICKEY'S CLUBHOUSE (Daily News) 4. TODD COUPLE! (Daily News) 5. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE (Daily News) 6. YOU NOAH NOTHING! (Daily News) -

And what if he's better than his mother?

It fizzled out. The last poll was posted in November 2014.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: He's real good, was killing it it in AA before a thumb injury. 5-tool kinda player, wonder if he'd play 3rd like dad. That's what Duquette suggested. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Brown-and-yellow pajama wearing fish taco eating kool-aid guzzlers in San Diego assume Tatis and high drafted lefty pitcher MacKenize Gore are "off the table" in trade talks and suggest C Austin Hedges and relievers like Kirby Yates, though that sounds to me more like a Seth Lugo package. Okay, then. That means I want to insist on Tatis and Gore! Gore is also 19, but hasn't pitched above Single A. If Syndergaard is leaving, I would want the deal to include a big-league starter for 2019.

I don't know... he's 19 years old (turns 20 in January) and has not yet played above AA. And yet, guys like Soto and Acuna have done it. So it's not impossible. Certainly not impossible. But I'm not sure how much you can count on it.

This is the pitcher that Duquette mentioned: Cal Quantrill
-
Jim Duquette yesterday on Mets Hot Stove suggested a similar trade, of Noah to the Padres for Tatis Jr. and a pitcher. I forget the pitcher's name, but he was someone that Duquette said could be ready for a big-league rotation shortly into the 2019 season. He's also the son of a former major leaguer.

Van Wagenen was interviewed by Steve Gelbs on Mets Hot Stove last night. He said that he doesn't like indecision, and that his preference is to determine Jacob deGrom's future before the season starts. He seemed to be implying that if they can't extend Jacob during this offseason, that they may very well trade him before Opening Day.
-
On last night's Mets Hot Stove, they presented a graphic that said that Jacob deGrom is one of seven pitchers to win both the Rookie of the Year and the Cy Young. Pretty cool that three of the seven were Mets, and that they were Mets for both the ROY and the CY. I don't know who the other four were, but I bet Jon Matlack feels like a stooge for not having won a Cy Young Award. Darryl Strawberry too, for that matter.

Meanwhile, I'm not at all surprised that CAN YOU DEAL? is being shut out.
-
I didn't know that! I thought it was a theatrical release in Australia.
-
I've seen most of these movies. The exceptions are the Blade and Punisher movies, the second Deadpool, the second Ghost Rider, Elektra, Howard the Duck, and the 2015 Fantastic Four. Was the omission of Man-Thing intentional or unintentional?
-
This poll is currently tied. Anyone care to break the deadlock?
-
It's actually a pretty good line.

I was much less interested in this one. Until just now I thought that Snell's first name was Nate.
-
This is great news. Mets Cy Young winners are almost as rare as NL pennants. (Cy leads 6 to 5.) I'm sure Jacob is thrilled, and I bet his agent is too. Oh... wait...

Tabloid Cover Derby 2018 (Year Four!)
Benjamin Grimm replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
Yes.. I apologize if I sounded snippy. I didn't mean to. I just wanted to nip in the bud any long conversation about the thousands of ways that the TCD can be changed. -
I think he's going to win it. But we'll know for sure in a little over an hour!

Tabloid Cover Derby 2018 (Year Four!)
Benjamin Grimm replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
The main purpose of the first round is to see the covers in chronological order which allows us to review the season's progress and also determine our first batch of winners. After that, it's a series of do-or-die, one-on-one, mano-a-mano matchups. Any proposals to make this thing more complicated will not be considered. I'm already giving this as much effort as I care to. I'd rather stop doing it entirely than make it a chore.
