  1. Valadius, you voted for Church twice in the Tuesday thread: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8572
  2. Yeah, I thought of him too. I just can't get excited about having somebody else join the Lima/Park/Erickson club. And I suspect that's what we'd get from Armas. (Could be wrong though!)
  3. No way was that injury faked. The SNY camera caught Pedro's leg doing a funny buckle as he delivered that pitch. Intentionally jiggling your knee during a delivery would be reckless; it could cause the fake injury to become a real one instead. I didn't hear much of the on-air speculation, and I wasn't in the IGT, but my plan matches what was stated above: promote Nelson Figgy for long relief and let Sosa get a start or two. He probably wouldn't need much more than that, as long as Orlando Hernandez returns when expected. (Which is far from a sure thing, of course.) Hernandez, by the way, is scheduled to start the Florida State League opener for the St. Lucie Mets tomorrow.
  4. AG/DC wrote: I have only myself to blame. Indeed. Can Corey Ragsdale be far behind?
  5. Yes, he took an excellent piss.
  6. With 22 votes, the Mets Monday opener is probably fully voted, but the thread will remain open until early Thursday morning. If you want to cast a vote, or edit your existing vote, do it before then: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8554
  7. Pagan 2 Schneider 2 Sosa 2 Heilman 2 Reyes 0.5 Church 0.5 Delgado 0.5 Wright 0.5
  8. Yeah, it's about the Brooklyn Dodgers. It's like if I was the boss of the Mets and I had a stadium designed to reflect my childhood interests. It would be a hybrid of the Sixties Shea Stadium and the Baxter Building. (Complete with a portal to the Negative Zone!)
  9. Now he's a pitcher. One game in 2006, full time in 2007: http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=0747&tabno=1&subtab=m
  10. I don't think it will be bad. I think the overall experience at the park will probably be very nice. I regret the Disney aspect, but it is possible to have a nice time at Disneyland. I've been to Europe and I've been to EPCOT. I enjoyed EPCOT, but I like the real Europe a whole lot more.
  11. About half the games will be HD this year, as I understand it. Tonight on DirecTV, the SNY feed for the Mets-Marlins game will be on Channel 722, by the way.
  12. I think it's okay to detract attention from the game. Not everybody in the park is a serious baseball fan. If I'm watching an exciting or important game, no ferris wheel is going to distract me.
  13. The Zephyrs, along with Binghamton, St. Lucie, and Savannah, are all scheduled to open their seasons on Thursday. The Mets other three farm clubs, Brooklyn, Kingsport, and Gulf Coast, will start play in June.
  14. Yeah, I guess that's what I meant. Not "future stars" necessarily, but guys who may contribute to a major league team.
  15. A much more interesting roster than in New Orleans. In addition to Fernando Martinez, there's Kunz, and Niese. Are Carp, Parnell, and Murphy still considered prospects? (I don't pay nearly as much attention to the farm system as I used to, I'm afraid.) And there's the continuing storyline of Hietpas reinventing himself.
  16. No, you can't blame HOK so much. They're giving the customer what he wants. I more blame Fred Wilpon for his lack of foresight and imagination. Maybe HOK could have said, "Geez, Fred, not another retro park!" but even if they did, Fred probably wouldn't have been deterred. I'm sure Citi Field will be a very nice park. But I agree that it could have been a lot nicer if it wasn't what it is (and where it is). The game is the thing, not the ballpark. But these retro parks are just little pieces of Disneyland, and that's the last thing we need.
  17. No Fernando Martinez? I guess he's landing in Binghamton, which, I imagine, will be a parallel thread. Do any of these guys look like they might help the big league team in 2008? I guess Tatis and Armas are possibilities. And maybe Abreu?
  18. That one furrowed my brow as well. I like Mark Kaufman's idea of building a stadium on top of a skyscraper. It would make for great visuals from the Goodyear blimp. The only (minor!) problems I could think of would be high winds and trying to get 50,000 people to exit at the same time. Imagine the backup to get on the elevator after the game ends!
  19. Yeah... This is quite suspicious.
  20. The words "renovation" and "refurbishment" are key components of the big lie.
  21. Keep the phone off the hook though, just in case Noah's mom tries to get in touch with you.
  22. And this article on MLB.com is full of gag-worthy material: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article_perspectives.jsp?ymd=20080311&content_id=2418522&vkey=perspectives&fext=.jsp
  23. The Associated Press gets it wrong: ]Christened by Babe Ruth with a home run on opening day in 1923, the big house in the Bronx is set for its final season.
  24. George Vecsey in the New York Times gets it right: ]Mondays rainout at Yankee Stadium, for example, figures to be the last rainout of the actual opening day at the intermediate Yankee Stadium (1976-2008), not to be confused with the original Yankee Stadium (1923-1973). Maybe they should have had Vecsey vet that John McCain expose a few weeks ago.
  25. The Daily News isn't the only entity pushing the 85-year thing though, are they?
