  1. ="soupcan"]For the Red Sox to retire a number the player has to be a Hall of Famer and has to have spent at least 10 years with the team. That's the way to do it. Yeah. I like that policy.
  2. Yeah, things were different then! It was the era of the player-umpire.
  3. I really don't think he warrants a retired number. But I do think he should have an NY on his cap.
  4. Box score Castillo 1.25 Schoeneweis 1.5 Wise 0.5 Beltran 0.25 Wright 0.25 Church 0.25
  5. The first time Glavine pitched against the Mets Look at those faces in the Mets starting lineup! So much has happened since then.
  6. Didn't you hear? He was "vindicated."
  7. Alou refuses to make the last out, singles up the middle.
  8. Definitely.
  9. I agree. As long as they don't retire his number.
  10. I think it will be the Mets. More years, more games, only World Series appearance.
  11. He should have signed a ceremonial contract with the Mets. That would have been nice. Now the talk will heat up again about caps on Cooperstown plaques and retired numbers. As for the cap, Keith says Mets, Gary and Ron say Dodgers.
  12. Gary Cohen confirms.
  13. David Wright has replaced Tom Glavine in the hardhat commercials for the Citi Field construction unions. No sign of Guissepe Franco today. Maybe that's the problem! 22 Mets in a row have now been retired.
  14. Gary Cohen: "Brian McCann adds to Aaron Heilman's misery with a two-run homer, and the Braves have a 6-1 lead."
  15. I agree. It's nuts, especially with a weak bullpen, to pull Glavine after six. Keith backtracks: "Bobby Cox must know what he's doing." Ron: "I wouldn't argue with him. He scares me."
  16. Glavine coming out of the game, and Keith can't believe it. He's retired his last 17 batters, and only threw 82 pitches.
  17. ="Fman99"]Tom Glavine needs to be punched in the neck. And his wife is a ****. Wow, both of your catchphrases in the same paragraph. You must be such a joy to be around!
  18. And Maine is out of the game, none out and two on in the fifth. No Schaefer for Mr. Vacationland today.
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I want to see Maine get a quick fifth so he can take the mound for the sixth. And he starts with a walk. Schoeneweis is up and throwing. And now an infield hit to Teixiera.
  20. And now it's 14 in a row for Glavine. And Maine has thrown 91 pitches through four innings. It looks like the bullpen will be getting three or four innings today. Not ideal in the first game of a doubleheader. I want to see Maine get a quick fifth so he can take the mound for the sixth.
  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Yeah and we can't win convinced that 2 runs is too many to overcome. I haven't said that they CAN'T win. Just that they need to reverse two trends in order for that to happen. Keith: It's "ominous" when you get a chance to knock out a great pitcher in the first inning and you don't do it.
  22. Well, now it's 3-1. The problem is that Maine is struggling and Glavine is sailing along. Both of these need to turn around if the Mets are to win this game.
  23. Oh, I agree that it's possible to determine if a guy uses smart strategy. What I was saying was that I don't know who the smart guys are. (And I'm not going to conduct an extensive investigation, either, unless I'm appointed as head of the Manager Search Committee.)
  24. Maine, meanwhile, throws 70 pitches in the first three innings, and Kelly Johnson leads off the fourth with a double. (Just as Darling is saying that Maine needs a quick easy inning.)
