  1. Edgy MD wrote: My question here, though, isn't about why he isn't hitting, but why are the Mets suddenly sitting him so decisively without any statement made to that regard? I saw an interview with Mendoza who said Jeff needs time off to get his head together. I just looked for it and couldn't find a link. Later See the first page of this thread. I posted a link from a New York Post article.
  2. I find it hard to disagree with that. Bud Harrelson certainly had a longer association with the Mets, but that doesn't diminish Grote's worthiness.
  3. It's seeming more and more that this isn't about bringing baseball to the people of London but about bringing American baseball fans to spend money in London. I think if I was there I would ignore the MLB promotional stuff (other than the game, of course) and spend my time exploring the city. Is this your first trip to London, or had you been there before?
  4. On August 5, 1987, while driving a rented car outside Tempo, Northern Ireland, Broderick crossed into the wrong lane and collided head-on with another car. The driver, Anna Gallagher, 28, and her mother, Margaret Doherty, 63, were both killed instantly. Wow, I didn't know this! I imagine Broderick is throwing out the first pitch because he's a Met Loving Big Shot. Maybe they'll get Bradley Cooper or Tina Fey (Phillies fans) for the other game.
  5. I forgot him! I knew there was another infielder I was overlooking, but couldn't think of who it was.
  6. According to MLB.com, Saturday's game is on Fox and Sunday's game is on ESPN.
  7. The writing does appear to be on the wall. If not Baty, then eventually Acuna or Maurico will force their way into the infield. (Assuming they're as good as we hope they are, natch.)
  8. Today I got everything except Red Sox 30 steals. My incorrect guess was Ellis Burks.
  9. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=158136 time=1717704581 user_id=68] Because MLB is now a stupid shitshow.
  10. The Mets are currently only 3.5 games out of the wild card race, albeit with six teams that they need to jump over. I imagine that if they remain that close, and can pass three or more of those teams, the Mets will modestly "go for it" and not do a big selloff. At least, I would hope so. If there's a reasonable chance to get a toehold in the expanded playoffs, they should do it. In a string of short series, anything is possible. If their June (or their July) can manage to turn out like their April did, their outlook will be quite different. I'm not predicting this, but hoping for it. What else can I do?
  11. Here's a picture from 1895. It looks like it was more spacious then, but it's hard to tell for sure. I would imagine that the configuration we see in the color photo wouldn't have worked well for baseball, even in the 19th Century. It appears that home plate was in the corner of the ballpark that's in the lower right of Edgy's photo. https://i0.wp.com/staceywest.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Baseball-in-1895.jpg?w=810&ssl=1>
  12. Very nice!
  13. I see that the White Sox are currently riding a 13-game losing streak, bringing their winning percentage down to .242. (15 and 47) It always gets my attention when a team drops below .250. I'm not one of those fans who wants the Mets to retain their 1962 record. I'd love to see it broken, preferably by a National League team (so that they lose both the MLB record and the NL record, if such distinctions matter anymore).
  14. The news of the D-Day commemorations serves as a reminder that today would have been Bud's 80th birthday.
  15. =metsmarathon post_id=158099 time=1717679611 user_id=83] he's collapsing! i predicted it long ago! players like him always collapse! cut him now!

  17. I voted Severino too.
  18. [bIGPURPLE]FINAL REMINDER![/bIGPURPLE] http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/images/warning.gif> http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/Cast your votes now! Voting for all remaining games played in the month of May will close on Monday, June 10. If there are any games that you haven't yet voted for, and intend to, please try to do so over the next few days.
  19. I only got an eight, because I misidentified Ernie Banks as a Negro League shortstop. But I scored a very low 0.03% on Cleon Jones as a White Sox outfielder.
  20. There's this, from the Post: https://nypost.com/2024/06/05/sports/jeff-mcneils-break-also-mental-as-absence-from-mets-lineup-may-continue/https://nypost.com/2024/06/05/sports/jeff-mcneils-break-also-mental-as-absence-from-mets-lineup-may-continue/
  21. No, he did just get here, but that doesn't mean he can't or won't be traded. Just ask Justin Verlander.
  22. Well, unlike Scherzer and Verlander last year, by July 31 Pete won't have that much guaranteed money left on his contract.
  23. I assume that both Nido and Torrens still have options, and can be returned to Syracuse?
  24. I think so too. I mainly posted this because I was surprised at the number of players he listed.
  25. Alvarez looks like he was happy to have been a part of it.
