Other than tie games, what is the closest score that has not yet been the final score of a Mets game? (30 total runs or fewer. There have been one-run games all the way from 1-0 to 13-12, so the highest-scoring one-run game that hasn't happened yet is 14-13. It was a loss to the Phillies at Veterans Stadium on June 11, 1985. Tom Gorman started for the Mets, got one guy out, and yielded to Calvin Schiraldi. The Phillies scored 9 runs in the first inning and another 7 in the second. What's the most lopsided shutout? 16-0. A loss to the Braves at Shea on July 2, 1999. Last night, by the way, was the 13th time that a Mets game has ended with a score of 11-0. The Mets are 10 and 3 in 11-0 games! (But only 1-2 when the 11-0 game is on June 24. They had lost 11-0 on June 24, 1972 and June 24, 2008.) Of the 13 games, 8 were 9-inning shutouts: Losses to Reggie Cleveland in 1972 and Rick Rhoden in 1984, and wins by Tom Seaver (1976), Jon Matlack (1976), Sid Fernandez (1986 and 1989), Dwight Gooden (1988) and Tom Glavine (2005). Don't you feel better knowing that?

="Edgy DC (in worst losses thread)":2fu2r4rw]6-4 is the score of the season.[/quote:2fu2r4rw] That comment got me curious, so I decided to plunge into my little database to see what the most common scores in Mets games have been. And that has prompted this little set of trivia questions. I'll post the answers late in the day tomorrow. I'm not going to give hints along the way. Everyone feel free to post your guesses and when I reveal the answers, you can see how you've done. (Mets wins and losses are combined in these totals; there's no distinction, for example, between 0-1 and 1-0.) Here we go... The Mets have played 7,625 regular and postseason games. How many distinct scores have there been? What is the most common score, and how many times has it occurred? Other than tie games, what is the closest score that has not yet been the final score of a Mets game? (30 total runs or fewer. We know that no game has ever ended with a score of 106-105, for example.) Of the final scores that have not yet happened, which score has the fewest combined runs? What score was the most lopsided in Mets history? (largest difference between the winning team's runs and the losing team's runs) What's the most lopsided shutout? What's the most lopsided score that has occurred more than once? (It's happened three times.) Whoever comes closest in each category gets a choice of a virtual shrimp platter or a virtual jar of jelly beans. We'll leave it on the honor system; I'm not promising I'm actually going to tally this stuff. (6-4, by the way, is the 18th most common final score in Mets history, and it's happened 147 times.) BONUS: The least-common score with a margin of fewer than five runs (excluding ties) is 10-6, which has only happened 30 times. What score was the most lopsided in Mets history? (largest difference between the winning team's runs and the losing team's runs) 26-7. Some of us may remember this one. (I know I do!) It was a loss to the Phillies at Veterans Stadium on June 11, 1985. Masato Yoshii started for the Mets and Greg Maddux went for Atlanta. What's the most lopsided score that has occurred more than once? (It's happened three times.) 17-1. There once was a catcher named Howe With a familiar arch to his brow He's no son of Art But he can sure play the part And he'll do so in Kingsport for now

Yes, I would assume so. There were nine times that he worked on back-to-back days. Not that he worked nine consecutive days.

Question re: Mets baseball on TV out of market
Benjamin Grimm replied to Gwreck's topic in New York Mets Talk
So that's the answer. Find somebody in New York who's willing to dedicate a spare TV to a SlingBox. If that person also has SNY, you'd be able to watch every Mets game as if you were in New York, without even needing Extra Innings. -

Benjamin Grimm Jun 24 2009 12:53 PM So that's the answer. Find somebody in New York who's willing to dedicate a spare TV to a SlingBox. If that person also has SNY, you'd be able to watch every Mets game as if you were in New York, without even needing Extra Innings. Gwreck Jun 24 2009 12:59 PM Yep. The Slingbox was a great idea. I believe the way the Slingbox changes channels is that it has a small infared-emitting device which you just stick in front of the cable box and can be used to change channels/etc. I guess it would also work to control a DVR if you taped the game and then wanted to watch it later. Swan Swan H Jun 24 2009 01:15 PM Yup. You get full control of the remote that works with the box, so if the box has a DVR you can use it as well. It's a GUI image of the remote, which is a bit weird, but works great. We got one last year when our son headed up to Boston for an internship, and this has allowed him to watch the Rangers, Giants and Mets, and record games when he had to work at night. Last time we went up to visit he had one of the Music Choice channels playing through the Slingbox on his laptop. He said it was better than the radio, since there were no commercials. bmfc1 Jun 28 2009 12:05 PM Gwreck, The rules are stupid. Las Vegas baseball fans are blackout out of six different teams! I have both EI and mlb.tv. If I could only pick one, I'd pick mlb.tv because you get the Mets games on WPIX. EI only shows the cable games. This includes the Saturday 1:10 starts which are n/a on EI. (This is one of the two dumbest aspects of the blackout rules--the other is that FOX games that are not shown in your market are still not shown on EI or mlb.tv). -

Question re: Mets baseball on TV out of market
Benjamin Grimm replied to Gwreck's topic in New York Mets Talk
There are three ways I can think of to get the games that air on WPIX. With Extra Innings you can usually watch the opposing team's feed, unless it's Saturday afternoon or neither team is carrying the game on cable. (Although Extra Innings does carry some over-the-air broadcasts, but just not for the Mets.) As I mentioned above, you can get a Slingbox and install it at a friend's or relative's house in the New York area. Thirdly, if you're close to New York but just outside the area, you might be able to pick up the WPIX signal with a strong HDTV antenna. I checked into it, and I'm kind of on the fringe area, I may or may not be able to pick up PIX. I may try it some day, but not any time soon. -
