  1. Ball one. (No pitching change... yet.)
  2. It would suck to not score at least one run this inning.
  3. Ball four loads 'em up for Church! (One out.)
  4. It's 3-2 on Wright (after starting out 0-2)
  5. Castillo walks, Murphy to second, Daaaaaavid Wright steps up to the plate. Pitching change.
  6. Cora flies to second center.
  7. ="Frayed Knot"]Denys (or Dennis, or Denis) Reyes's stomach is in to relieve. He may be 60' 6" from the plate but his gut is just 54' 7" He looks like Hurley from Lost.
  8. Murphy (double-switched into the game for Evans) leads off the 8th with a single, and now Cora is trying to bunt.
  9. Pedro gets out of the eighth nicely after the Cards start with a leadoff single and a sacrifice.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: Tyler Green? Khalil greene? I smell Sean Green. That's better than smelling gangrene.
  11. Cards get one back with two out in the sixth. 3-2 Mets.
  12. Santos ends the inning with a sharp grounder to short.
  13. Evans drives one into the right field corner! Two-run double, 3-1 Mets!
  14. Fernando M. hits a high bouncer to third which advances the runners, but is the second out. Second and third, Nick Evans up.
  15. Kevin B. tells us that Tatis has hit into a DP in five of his last six chances. Not this time, though. He flares an RBI single to right and Castillo scores the tying run.
  16. Church hits one to almost the same spot. This time, it's Pujols who smothers it, and he gets the force at second. First and third, one out, for Tatis.
  17. Not quite, but still a good result. David hits a squib that the second baseman pounces on, but he can't do anything with it. Two on, none out, Church batting.
  18. Castillo gets a leadoff hit in the fourth. Let's see David hit one into the gap here...
  19. Mets already down 1-0 as Cora leads off the first. The RBI single looks like it could have been caught, but Fernando in center decided to play it on a hop.

  21. Okay, here are the answers: How many distinct scores have there been? 140 What is the most common score, and how many times has it occurred? 3-2, 512 times. Other than tie games, what is the closest score that has not yet been the final score of a Mets game? (30 total runs or fewer. We know that no game has ever ended with a score of 106-105, for example.) There have been one-run games all the way from 1-0 to 13-12, so the highest-scoring one-run game that hasn't happened yet is 14-13. Of the final scores that have not yet happened, which score has the fewest combined runs? There's never been a 17-0 game. All possible scores with 16 runs or fewer have occurred. BONUS: The least-common score with a margin of fewer than five runs (excluding ties) is 10-6, which has only happened 30 times. What score was the most lopsided in Mets history? (largest difference between the winning team's runs and the losing team's runs) 26-7. Some of us may remember this one. (I know I do!) It was a loss to the Phillies at Veterans Stadium on June 11, 1985. Tom Gorman started for the Mets, got one guy out, and yielded to Calvin Schiraldi. The Phillies scored 9 runs in the first inning and another 7 in the second. What's the most lopsided shutout? 16-0. A loss to the Braves at Shea on July 2, 1999. Masato Yoshii started for the Mets and Greg Maddux went for Atlanta. What's the most lopsided score that has occurred more than once? (It's happened three times.) 17-1. Atlanta 17, Mets 1, June 17, 1966 Mets 17, Pittsburgh 1, April 17, 1976 Mets 17, Houston 1, August 30, 1999 TOP TEN MOST COMMON SCORES IN METS HISTORY: 3-2 512 4-3 444 2-1 442 4-2 334 5-4 332 3-1 264 5-2 240 4-1 237 6-5 229 5-3 227
  22. So does that mean that Tommy Newsom will be reporting from the sidelines?
  23. Working from home today, so I'll be able to watch on television. If it's a compelling game, my work may suffer.
  24. ="soupcan"]'Avengers' might have been cool. The fans could have shouted "Avengers Assemble!" NYB's would have been awful. If I was voting back then I think I might have gone with Meadowlarks. Or maybe Mets, if I wanted to honor the 19th Century team.
