  2. Interesting. Whatever they unveil, though, can't be any worse than what they currently have. (We haven't had that old chestnut here in the forum for a while, so I thought I'd revive it.)
  3. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Anyway, going a long way to saying I love the cards and appreciate the effort. Thank you! The array of cards above happens to represent at least one sample of every Topps year that I've "retroed," from 1970 to 1977. Tim Redding's card is the first one I've done from 1976. (You can see the full gallery, if you'd like, on the UMDB Facebook page.) I have three more cards, for players who looked, as the end of the month approached, like they were going to be a winner, but ended up falling just short. They've not yet been seen, and I'll probably post them later on in this thread. Edgy DC wrote: Heartbreaking that nobody could break through David's open door. 91.72 is, by a considerable margin, the lowest total ever for a Schaefer Player of the Year. Santana was well on his way to a win until his season abruptly ended. That left Castillo and Murphy as Wright's only challengers, and they didn't make it much of a challenge.
  4. The Wilpons claimed from the beginning that the Madoff thing didn't hurt the club's finances. Nobody wanted to believe it. (I didn't have an opinion either way.)
  5. They did do that (have two games on at once) in the first year or two of the wild card. It didn't go over very well. Back in the day when I would try to watch every post-season game that I could, I wouldn't have liked it either.
  6. THE SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR PLAYER OF THE YEAR The Schaefer Mets Player of the Year for 2009 is DAVID WRIGHT. This is the fourth time David has won in the five years that the Crane Pool Forum has been maintaining the Schaefer tradition. It was, by all accounts, a sub-par year for Wright, but he benefited from being one of the few players to remain healthy for most of the season. David led the Mets in runs (88), hits (164), doubles (39), runs batted in (72), walks (74), and stolen bases (27). His .307 batting average, .447 slugging percentage, and .390 on-base percentage also were team highs. On a less positive note, David also led the Mets with 140 strikeouts. PITCHER OF THE YEAR The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Year, for the second year in a row, is JOHAN SANTANA. Despite an elbow injury which ended his season on August 20, Santana finished just 7.11 points behind David Wright, and would likely have repeated as Player of the Year if he had another two or three starts. Santana tallied 25.83 points more than pitching runner-up Mike Pelfrey. Johan led the Mets with 13 wins, 146 strikeouts, and a 3.13 earned run average. RELIEF PITCHER OF THE YEAR In the closest of the three races, the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Year is FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ. Frankie finished 4.08 points ahead of Brian Stokes, followed closely by Pedro Feliciano and Sean Green. Rodriguez, in 70 games, win 3 games and lost 6, and led the Mets with 35 saves. His season earned run average was 3.71. FUN FACTS The highest point total earned by any one player in 2009 was the 5.59 that Johan Santana earned on August 9 in a 5-1 victory over San Diego. The lowest "winning score" was the 0.82 that Elmer Dessens was awarded for his efforts on July 17, in an 11-0 loss to Atlanta. The most Schaefer Player of the Game awards went to Johan Santana, with 19. 7. I wouldn't be too surprised if they kept tabs on the standout 9- and 10-year-olds, for future reference.

  11. I already told you what thread it was in. You can post the link yourself. I've spent enough time on this nonsense.
  12. Especially since I posted the actual text above and it's nothing like what MFS62 is saying he was 100 per cent correct about.
  13. I think Fman thinks it should be an automatic inclusion.
  14. It's the October 4 IGT.
  15. I would think that the "best case" wouldn't involve Francoeur reverting to sucky.
  16. Yes. But it's also premature to count on him to be a starting left fielder next year. I don't think that will happen, but if it does, it will be a bad thing.
  17. Remember him? My worst-case scenario for the off-season involves the Mets deciding over the winter that Fernando is their guy for left field.
  18. My sense is that the Mets are more locked in at right field (with Francoeur) than they are at catcher.
  19. You know what else strikes me as crazy? That somebody wrote a book about the fate of Ted Williams' frozen head. Yeah, I mean, I understand that it's more than that, it's an expose of the frozen head industry. But it still seems strange. Who's going to read that book?
  20. I read it as Edgy not wanting to write Delgado off. I agree with that. I hope they consider bringing Carlos back, if the price is right. (To guarantee him $11 million, for example, would be foolish, but to give him a deal where he'd earn $11 million if he hits 35 homers and drives in 125 runs is another story.)
  21. Lee Mazzilli has bumped Tom Seaver down into fifth place in the all-time UMDB lookups. (I think this happened some time today.) When the UMDB started, Seaver was number 1, (which I think is appropriate) but he was eventually passed by Mike Piazza. Since then, Piazza has slipped into third place. Keith Hernandez is number 1, by a sizable margin, followed by Dwight Gooden, Piazza, Mazzilli, and Seaver. Mazzilli really doesn't belong in that company. Ron Darling, Tug McGraw, Darryl Strawberry, Mookie Wilson, and David Wright round out the top ten.
  22. I see his value as a guy who can flit between 1B, 2B (I hope), 3B, and LF, maybe accumulating about 300 plate appearances during the season. I think, for the short term, the Mets will be asking him to do more than that. If he rises to the occasion, then good for him. And if he doesn't, then the experiment won't last too long. I'm hoping that he's not anointed the starting LF or 1B over the winter. I want better options at each position. (Especially left field.) One way to judge how this off-season has gone is to see what kind of a role Daniel Murphy will have as he heads for spring training.
  23. My rooting interest, even before last night's game, was to see a World Series between Minnesota and Colorado. And to see early exits from the Yankees and Phillies. So... Go Twins. Go Rockies.
