  1. And I apologize for not including Fay Wray in this poll.
  2. I don't know. Gold Gloves are self-perpetuating, so Santana and Wright might get theirs again. I doubt that the Mets will have a Silver Slugger. Naturally, the big awards, MVP, Cy Young, and ROY, are off the table this winter.
  3. I'm also not crazy about the resulting big red ego-driven exclamation point that's on the Threesome thread.
  4. I think his point was that the minimum is 5 to 8 bucks.
  5. Bruce Levine of ESPN (I'm not familiar with him) says the Cubs have talked to the Blue Jays, Angels, Rangers, and Mets about a deal for Milton Bradley. Maybe this is true, but if so, my guess is that it was the Cubs trying to push Bradley, rather than the Mets looking to pry him loose from the Cubs. But who knows?
  6. Venezuela is one place that I won't be vacationing in any time soon.
  7. I'm curious... Those of you who follow out-of-town teams more closely than I do: What do you think of the Troy Glaus possibility? Of him platooning with Daniel Murphy for 2010 at first base?
  8. I don't either. I would think, for a player like Gonzalez, you'd need to get at least one established player who's not carrying a huge contract. The Mets have four such players that I can think of: Maine, Wright, Pelfrey, and Reyes. Maine and Reyes have lower trade value right now because of their injuries. And so do Wright and Pelfrey, because of the seasons that they just had.
  9. On November 5, Marty Noble had this to say about first base in 2010: One option the Mets are considering is to... Sign Glaus, a right-handed power hitter, to a conditional contract and have him available to share first base with Murphy and provide power off the bench. That would all but eliminate Delgado from the Mets' thoughts. But for now, the club is considering offering Delgado a conditional contract.
  10. Sean Green is still around. (I think.)
  11. I've read that a lot of Latin American parents like to give their kids Anglo-sounding names, but they don't know the correct spelling, so they make it up according to their understanding of the pronunciation, combined with the phonetics of Spanish. I would assume that "Jenry" is an attempt at "Henry" since the J in Spanish is pronounced like our H. (Jose, Julio, etc.) I also assume that his name is pronounced "Henry" and not "Jenry" with the J (or soft G) sound.
  12. I'm glad they're starting with 1971. That was my first year as a fan.
  13. Wow! Sounds like something to TiVo and burn to DVD.
  14. I had high hopes after 1976. It was, to date, their second-best season (in terms of wins) ever. I was pretty rattled by the Seaver trade. I remember gloomily sitting on a curb with my friends, thinking the Mets would never have a player like that again. But kids are resilient, and, while I wasn't all that excited about Dan Norman, I saw Steve Henderson as that next big star we were craving. (I remember Joe Torre on TV saying that he wouldn't trade Steve Henderson even-up for Tom Seaver. What a bullshitter.) If I had been older and wiser, I would have perhaps seen 1977 for what it was, the beginning of a steep decline. I didn't understand at the time that Mrs. Payson's death left the Mets in the hands of people who didn't care about winning, only about cost-cutting. I'll still say 2009 was the worst, because it wasn't one bad event, it was a whole shitstorm. One thing after another. I'm glad there wasn't a season like this when I was 15. I might have become permanently demoralized.
  15. I don't know. It's hard to recall a worse season. Maybe 1992 or 1993? So much went wrong this year, and it ends with a Yankees championship. I agree that this one is an all-time stinker.
  16. I think they should toy around with Torrealba again. Make him really hate them.
  17. So what time have these games been ending? Around midnight?
  18. It's more than many Schaefer threads got.
  19. You shouldn't be making bets like that! If I had to put a Yankee cap on my head, I'm sure it would burn my scalp, like a crucifix would burn a vampire.
