  1. Good ol' Ed Price!
  2. FOX SPORTS' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Mets have made contact with free agent infielder Jerry Hairston and catcher Bengie Molina. Rosenthal points out that Hairston is the only remaining free agent who can play both shortstop and center field, positions the Mets need depth at with Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran coming off surgery. In 131 games between the Yankees and Reds, Hairston hit .251 with 10 home runs and a .328 on-base percentage. He is a career .259 hitter in 12 professional seasons. TEN home runs?!? In ONE SEASON?!? As we've learned, that's an astronomical number!
  3. The only way the Mets could make me angry is if they ill-treated me at the ballpark, or if they sent Mr. Met to my house to kick my dog.
  4. A little discouraged by the Beltran thing, but not pissed. I don't see any reason to be. I'm also dismayed by the overreactions and the angst and all that. I can understand why Mets fans are perceived to be a bunch of ninnies; we publicly display our ninniness.
  5. I'm also getting that impression.
  6. And Wright wants answers. He sounds like Valadius.
  7. The "wait for guys to get healthy" plan was a dismal failure last year, because the guys never did get healthy. If they could be sure that Beltran would be back and healthy by around May 1, I could see them hanging in there with Pagan. But after last year, we know that there's no way to be sure about that at all, and that it's entirely possible that Carlos will be out until June, or July, or August, or September... So yes, I think they'll make a move and bring in an outfielder. Beltran's disappearing takes away more than they got from the addition of Bay. I have no idea what that move might be, however. I suspect they'll be more likely to sign Delgado now, just to have another potential source for power.
  8. No, it was definitely when he was a Met. I'm thinking 1987, or maybe 1988.
  9. I know it may not pass the "verified" criteria, but what year was it when Lenny Dykstra showed up in Port St. Lucie all buffed up like the Hulk?
  10. Hah! That just shows how cheap Jeff Wilpon is! (I'm trying to get with the program.)
  11. Okay, so the fourth outfielder, Pagan, ascends to the starting three, most likely. That leaves two outfield roster spots to be filled for the Opening Day roster. Are they going to sign somebody? Who? Might Fernando make the roster? Or would he be better off playing every day in Buffalo?
  12. So we griped when they didn't have a Hall of Fame, and now we gripe that they're spending money on building one.

  14. And there's all the shrimp you can eat.* * While supplies last.
  15. Blue Jays, reportedly, are not interested in Delgado.
  16. At least Glavine was a wimp with no personality. Smoltz would be a disaster. You're clearly saying that you prefer the wimp.
  17. I think Johnny is looking for MLB leaders, not Mets leaders.
  18. I can't see why we'd prefer a "wimp" to someone who's "tough and gritty."
  19. Doug Miller on MLB.com is reporting that Bengie Molina has decided that he'll accept a two-year deal (instead of the three-year deal he had been seeking) and may sign with the Mets within the next 48 to 72 hours.
  20. Was the "re-entry draft" still in effect then? I suppose it probably was. I remember it after 1976, when the Mets drafted Reggie Jackson and I foolishly thought they'd make an attempt at signing him. I would guess that the draft probably ended with the 1981 strike settlement, although I do remember a time when the draft still existed but there was no limit to the number of players who could be drafted by each team, so it no longer made any semblance of sense, if it ever did. I do seem to remember Kranepool job hunting after 1979, with the possibility of playing in the AL as a DH. I think there were rumors about him talking to an AL East team, maybe Baltimore or Toronto, but I'm less sure about that.
  21. According to Ed Price of AOL FanHouse, the Mets are having in-depth talks with right-hander Joel Pineiro about a contract that is worth around two years and $15 million. I never heard of Ed or AOL FanHouse, so I don't know how credible a source he might be, so take the above for whatever it may be worth.
  22. And I think some of it may have been wishful thinking.
