  1. This commercial that MLB Network shows, where Peter Gammons is sitting there listing baseball players (Dustin Pedroia, CC Sabathia, Albert Pujols, Zack Greinke, Tim Lincecum, Adam Wainwright, Kirby Puckett, Johnny Bench, Joe DiMaggio...) reminds me of Bubba in Forrest Gump. If they're trying to make him look like a babbling fool, they're doing a good job.
  2. Dickey knocked out in the third. Unidentified Mets pitcher coming in to relieve him...
  3. 20 million men have had the Viagra conversation with their doctor.
  4. That Hi-Dee-Hi-Dee-Hi-Dee-Ho song that they play over the PA system: That's not the Marx Brothers from Duck Soup, is it?
  5. This tells me that he should concentrate on hitting to opposite field more often.
  6. Young David Wright with an opposite-field homer!
  7. Stuff May or May Not Happen
  8. Today's game, like Tuesday's, is also on MLB network.
  9. The catchers aside, from last year to this, it's Delgado, Beltran, and Church replaced by Pagan, Francoeur, and Bay. So yes, I'd say it's a bit weaker.

  11. A 1962 Met, Larry Foss, posted a memory of Gene Woodling today to the UMDB.
  12. But because it's not going to be you, we're all faced with the dread thought that it might be podcaster SteveJRogers. Thanks a lot!
  13. Yeah. But what gave him away was that he couldn't squeeze his hair into a baseball cap.
  14. This time of year, the hitters are ahead of the fielders.
  15. That guy's going to be trouble, isn't he? Plus, it was recently revealed that he grew up as a YLDB.
  16. Maybe the Mets would be better served if they put a next-generation Howie/Gary in the booth. A 30-something who grew up rooting for the Mets and has broadcasting chops. (I'm sure there's a bunch to choose from.) This new guy would, presumably, know more about Edgardo Alfonzo than Ken Boswell, but it's not too early to start grooming the guy who will be potentially to voice of a future generation. As I've said, I know little about Wayne Hagin, (including his age) but I'm getting the sense that he's not going to be that guy.
  17. I mentioned this article in the Mejia thread in Adopt a Prospect. As I said over there, I'd much rather see Mejia as a starter than a reliever.
  18. I heard a story about this on the radio this morning. Apparently they can't actually confirm whether or not the day was shortened, but if it was, it was by about .000001 seconds. It would be much more interesting if the day was shortened by about five minutes or so. Would we have to adjust clocks? Calendars? Computers? It's interesting to imagine how the world would have to react to such a thing. Plus, we'd all get to leave work at 4:55! (Or 5:25, or...)
  19. I caught a couple of innings on TV yesterday, but didn't realize until just now that the Mets are wearing their real caps and uniforms? Is that something new this year? I know that in past years that they've worn spring training caps and jerseys for Grapefruit League games but I don't recall if that's been the case for the last couple of springs.
  20. Article in the Daily News today advancing the Mariano Rivera comparisons. This time it's from Darryl Strawberry, who says he's pushing Omar to have Jenrry make the team this year, and sees him as a closer. (It's not clear whether Darryl is saying he should be a closer this year, bumping Frankie Rodriguez.) And maybe that is the best future for him, but if so I'll be a bit disappointed. If he's as good as they say he is (and the jury is still out on that, of course) I want him to be a starter. I'd rather have a Dwight Gooden (or even a Ron Darling) than a Mariano Rivera.
  21. Fman99 wrote: Fortunately for me, most of my Mets absorption comes over TV and not radio so my exposure to him is limited to weekday matinees and weekend games when I'm in the car traveling. Yeah, me too. I've heard so little of Hagin that I have no opinion of him at all.
