Mets Minor League Report: No Wins

Offense was tough to come by for several affiliates on Wednesday night.

It was a rough night across the Mets' system, with all four affiliates falling. Andy Ibáñez homered for Syracuse, Mitch Voit and John Bay starred for Brooklyn, and Elian Peña collected three hits for St. Lucie. On the mound, Hunter Hodges was dominant in relief for Brooklyn, striking out six over hitless innings, while Gabriel Rodriguez fanned four in a sharp start for Binghamton. The bats, though, mostly went quiet.

Andy Ibáñez Powers Early Lead But Syracuse Pitching Falters In Loss

The Syracuse Mets jumped ahead early but could not slow the Red Wings in an 8-4 road loss at Rochester. Syracuse struck first in the opening inning, when Andy Ibáñez crushed a three-run home run to left field that scored Yonny Hernández and Christian Arroyo.

The lead did not hold, and Syracuse drew even again in the fourth, when Jackson Cluff singled, advanced, and came home on Kevin Parada's RBI single to tie the game at four. Rochester answered with three runs in the fifth and another in the seventh to pull away, and that was as close as the visitors would get. Ibáñez finished 1-for-4 with the homer and three RBIs, while Hernández reached three times, going 2-for-4 with a walk and a run, and Arroyo added two hits and a run. Parada singled, walked, and drove in a run, and Syracuse stayed busy on the bases with four stolen bases, including one apiece from Cristian Pache and Cluff.

Zach Thornton had a difficult outing. Over 4 1/3 innings, he allowed six runs on seven hits, including three home runs, with two walks and two strikeouts, taking the loss. The bullpen could not stop the bleeding, as Zach Peek and Alex Carrillo each surrendered a run, though Cionel Pérez tossed a scoreless inning to close it out. Syracuse left eight runners on base.

Binghamton Bats Go Quiet In Home Loss To Portland

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies managed just five hits and struck out 14 times in a 6-2 home loss to the Portland Sea Dogs. Binghamton pushed across a run in the first inning, when Jorge Polanco came around to score on a throwing error. The Rumble Ponies tied the game at two in the fourth, when D'Andre Smith doubled and scored on Nick Lorusso's groundout. The offense went quiet from there, never getting another runner home. Smith led the way with a double and a run, while Jorge Polanco went 1-for-2 with a run, Jose Ramos and Marco Vargas each added a single, and JT Schwartz chipped in a hit and a walk. As a group, Binghamton drew just three walks against 14 strikeouts.

Starter Gabriel Rodriguez was sharp, allowing one run over two innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Carlos Guzman was tagged with the loss, and the game turned in the sixth, when Brian Metoyer was charged with three runs on two hits and two walks over 1 2/3 innings, allowing Portland to break it open. Douglas Orellana and Felipe De La Cruz each followed with a scoreless inning of relief, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Binghamton stranded six runners.

Mitch Voit And John Bay Shine But Brooklyn Falls Late To Wilmington

The Brooklyn Cyclones built an early lead and got a huge night from the top of their order, but a late bullpen stumble cost them a 7-6 loss to the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Brooklyn jumped ahead in the first, when leadoff man Mitch Voit scored on John Bay's triple, and Bay came home on Ronald Hernandez's groundout for a 2-1 lead. Voit stayed hot with a home run in the fourth. Voit finished 2-for-5 with the homer, two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base, while Bay reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two walks, three runs, an RBI, and a stolen base. Hernandez drove in two on two hits, and Diego Mosquera added two hits and an RBI.

Starter Parker Carlson allowed three runs over two innings with a strikeout and no walks. Hunter Hodges was the highlight on the mound, striking out six over 2 1/3 hitless, scoreless innings in relief. The late innings unraveled, though. Tanner Witt blew the save by allowing two runs in the seventh, Brooklyn answered to tie it at six on Yonatan Henriquez's sacrifice fly that scored Bay, and Hoss Brewer then took the loss after surrendering a go-ahead home run in the eighth. Brooklyn left eight on base.

Elian Peña Collects Three Hits In St. Lucie's Road Loss

Elian Peña had a big day atop the order, but the St. Lucie Mets fell 6-4 on the road at the Bradenton Marauders. Peña, batting leadoff, went 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. St. Lucie struck first in the opening inning, when Julio Zayas singled home Antonio Jimenez. The Mets added a run in the third, when Yohairo Cuevas singled to score Peña. Bradenton answered with three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to seize control. St. Lucie kept battling, scoring in the fifth when Peña singled and Jeremy Rodriguez came home, and again in the sixth on AJ Salgado's run, which came around on Chase Meggers's sacrifice fly. Salgado finished 1-for-4 with a double and a run, Jimenez reached twice while going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run, Sam Robertson singled and drew a walk, and Cuevas and Zayas each drove in a run.

Starter Cam Tilly took the loss, allowing six runs, four earned, over 4 1/3 innings with four walks and six strikeouts. The bullpen was excellent behind him, as Josh Blum, Justin Armbruester, and Zack Mack combined for 3 2/3 scoreless innings while fanning four. St. Lucie left five runners on base.
