New York Mets Minor-League Pitchers of the Month: August 2026

The New York Mets' MiLB hitters put on a show in August. Their collective performance made it difficult to separate players for our August MiLB Hitters of the Month article. Thankfully, a good group of pitchers gave us the same chore.

In August, a handful of Mets starters and relievers put together strong showings. The most encouraging uptick in production came from GCM's No. 1 prospect, Jonah Tong. Were his numbers good enough to claim the top spot in our rankings, though? Let's find out.

Ranking Mets' Best MiLB Pitchers in August

3. R.J. Gordon - AA (Binghamton)

Gordon, New York's 13th-round draft pick (No. 383 overall) in 2024, has been with the Rumble Ponies for a full calendar year now. His best month in Binghamton was August 2025, where he took Double-A by storm with a 2.08 ERA and 42:9 K:BB ratio in 34 2/3 innings. Prior to August 2026, he had not posted an ERA below 4.00 in any single month since then. 

Injuries played a role in Gordon's early-season struggles. He started finding himself again in July, then fully strut his stuff last month. His 2.17 ERA, .198 batting average against and 1,07 WHIP, with a strong September, could push him to Triple-A to begin the 2027 campaign.

2. Nicolas Carreno - High-A (Brooklyn)

The Mets added an 18-year-old Carreno in a swap for Josh Walker back in 2024. Now 20 years old, the lefty twirler joined the Cyclones on June 11, two days after cracking the two-decade threshold. Growing pains defined his first six weeks at High-A, but he got himself acclimated well in August.

Like most young hurlers, Carreno needs to rein in his command (5.58 BB/9 this season). Posting a 1.00 WHIP -- and 1.17 ERA -- for August despite 11 walks demonstrates the filth of his repertoire. He's a fun, under-the-radar piece of clay in this organization.

1. Jonah Tong -- AAA (Syracuse, No. 1 Prospect)

Tong desperately needed August 2026. New York's top prospect opened the month by allowing five solo shots versus the Columbus Clippers (not great). In the four starts that followed, he yielded just 11 hits and two earned runs across 21 1/3 innings.

For those curious, that's a 0.84 ERA. Tong's command woes can still flare up, but he walked only six hitters in his final three starts and followed those games with a solid line -- 5.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R (4 ER), 1 BB, 7 K -- in his return to the majors on Sept. 7. He earned his second-ever MLB win (and first as a starter) with that effort, and our MiLB Pitcher of the Month honors for his Triple-A dominance.
