Kevin Parada hit a two-run home run and Jack Wenninger struck out seven over five innings as visiting Syracuse topped St. Paul 6-2 on Thursday to earn a split for the Mets’ minor-league affiliates.
Parada lifted a drive to left-center field in the third inning, after a leadoff walk to Nick Lorusso, to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. It was his second homer at Triple-A this season and sixth overall.

Run-scoring hits by Ryan Clifford (double) and Lorusso (single) in the fourth and an RBI single by Vidal Brujan in the fifth accounted for Syracuse’s final three runs. MJ Melendez got the Mets on the board in the first with an RBI groundout.
Wenninger (5-8) held the Saints scoreless over his final three innings after allowing a two-run double in the bottom of the second.

Five relievers combined to get the final 12 outs. Matt Turner recorded the final two for his second save.
Syracuse has taken two of the first three games on this trip to the Upper Midwest. Thursday’s win also kept the Mets 2 1/2 games behind the leader in the International League’s second-half championship race with nine games remaining. Rochester moved into sole possession of first with a win and a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre loss.
While Syracuse stayed in shouting distance in its pennant race, Double-A Binghamton was eliminated from contention in its race after a 14-6 loss at Portland. The Sea Dogs scored six runs in the fourth inning to wipe out a 3-1 Rumble Ponies lead. Reading clinched the second-half title in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division on Thursday. It will face Hartford in the divisional playoffs beginning Tuesday.

Strong Finishes For Parada, Wenninger
Parada, 25, was promoted to Syracuse from Double-A Binghamton on Sept. 3, after the New York Mets designated Shawn Ross for assignment. He’s splitting time behind the plate with Hayden Senger.
The 2022 first-round draft pick was first called up Triple-A on May 15 after Senger was recalled to the majors. He produced a .301/.373/.425 slash line, a homer and 12 RBIs in 84 plate appearances, but it wasn’t enough to keep him up. The organization sent him back to Binghamton on July 1.
When he returned to Double-A, he resumed splitting time with Chris Suero. That was another signal that Parada’s stock had fallen despite his history as a high draft pick. He will be available in this year’s Rule 5 draft if New York keeps him off the 40-man roster in November.
Wenninger closed out his season well, but overall, he took a step back from his 2025 campaign at Binghamton. He finished with a 4.21 ERA (4.84 RA/9) and a FIP north of 5.00 in 113 1/3 innings over 25 appearances (21 starts). His rate stats weren’t super: a 24.5 percent strikeout rate, an unsightly 13.2 percent walk rate, and a 3.0 percent home run rate.

Reimer’s HR Goes To Waste In Binghamton Loss
Binghamton led 3-0 three batters into the game. Jacob Reimer smashed a three-run homer after Mitch Voit reached on an error and Jefferson Rojas doubled. Since returning to Binghamton on Aug. 4 from a groin injury, the 22-year-old corner infielder is batting .282/.362/.400 with two homers and 23 RBIs in 127 plate appearances.

Portland got one run back in the second on a double steal before taking control in the fourth. The Sea Dogs loaded the bases with one out against Binghamton starter Luke Gabrysh (1-2). Douglas Orellana came in at that point and promptly served up a grand slam to put Portland ahead 5-3. He allowed a two-run homer with outs to give the Sea Dogs a 7-3 cushion.
Gabrysh's pitching line was heavily damaged by Orellana’s failure. He was charged with four runs (all earned) on four hits and three walks over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out five.
Calvin Ziegler made his Double-A debut after being called up from High-A Brooklyn. He walked two but also fanned two in a scoreless fifth,

Eddinson Paulino drove in the Rumble Ponies’ other runs with a sacrifice fly in the seventh and a bases-loaded walk in the ninth.
