    The final spot on the New York Mets' coaching staff for 2027 has been filed.
    Johnny Washington was hired by the Mets to be the co-hitting coach. Washington will share hitting coach duties with Troy Snitker, who was retained on new manager Andy Green's first Mets staff. Assistant hitting coach Rafael Fernandez remains on the staff. Washington takes the place of Jeff Albert, who was the director of hitting.
    The 42-year-old Washington was the minor-league hitting coordinator for Atlanta this season. Washington worked under Green from 2017-19 when he was the manager of the San Diego Padres. Washington has also worked in the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers' organizations.
    Despite having MLB's second-highest competitive-balance tax payroll in 2026, the Mets finished 20th in runs and 23rd in OPS.
    The only other newcomers to the staff Green inherited from Carlos Mendoza are Mariano Duncan as assistant coach and A.J. Ellis as major-league strategy coordinator.

    The Arizona Fall League has been a gold mine for the majority of the five New York Mets pitchers sent to the desert, and today two of them were given All-Star honors.
    Irving Cota has been largely dominant in his time with the Surprise Saguaros. In 12.2 innings, Cota has 15 strikeouts and a 0.87 WHIP. While he has dealt with some recent struggles, a Fall Stars recognition was still deserved after his dominant start to his fall campaign.
    Ryan Lambert has also been dominant this fall, still not allowing a hit or earned run in six innings of work. Lambert has also accumulated 10 strikeouts in that span. He was supposed to be called to the big leagues at one point this past season, but struggles delayed that from happening. With the huge fall that he is having, Lambert is putting himself on track for another shot at a potential call-up.
    The Fall Stars Game will happen this Sunday, Nov. 8, at 8pm EST.

    According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the New York Mets are hiring former MLB catcher A.J. Ellis to be the team's major-league strategy coordinator. Ellis worked as a special assistant in the San Diego Padres' front office and was managed by Andy Green in San Diego.
    Ellis played a majority of his career with the Dodgers and posted a career .693 OPS and a 91 OPS+. The Mets are making this hire because of his experience helping to run a pitching staff, including his work as Clayton Kershaw's personal catcher during his run of Cy Young awards.
    Ellis will be a big part of the day-to-day game planning, and having his experience from behind the plate on the staff should benefit the Mets on the field in 2027.

    Before the free-agent market opens for players to change teams, the New York Mets made two moves Monday on the fringes of their roster.
    Infielder Christian Cairo was signed to a one-year split major-league contract, while right-handed reliever Jack Anderson was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. The Anderson addition was reported by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Financial terms for Cairo were not known. These two moves leave the Mets' 40-man roster at 41. It needs to be at the 40-player limit by 5 p.m. ET.
    Cairo was claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies in mid-September. The Phillies had designated the 25-year-old for assignment and the Mets assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk. He slashed .230/.381/.300 with four homers, 36 RBIs and 25 steals at Triple-A between the two stops.
    Anderson was recently DFA'd by the Twins, although that move had not been reported before the Mets claimed him Monday. The soon-to-be 27-year-old made seven appearances between the Twins and Boston Red Sox this year, including his MLB debut. The Twins acquired Anderson after he was DFA'd by the Red Sox. In those seven relief appearances, Anderson had a 2.94 FIP (2.19 ERA) with one save, with a 6.3% walk rate and 25% strikeout rate.

    The New York Mets already knew they had a good starting pitcher in Nolan McLean after the right-hander put up very nice numbers during his rookie season.
    His stock just went up a little bit after he became the first rookie pitcher to win a Gold Glove on Sunday. McLean joins Ron Darling in 1989 as the only pitchers in Mets history to win the NL honor. This is also the first Mets Gold Glove since 2014, when center fielder Juan Lagares won it. The only team with a longer Gold Glove drought is the Washington Nationals (14 years).
    McLean committed three errors among his 43 chances during his 31 starts this year for a fielding percentage of .930. He had 24 assists and was part of two double plays. McLean had four defensive runs saved, tied for fourth-most among MLB pitchers. He also controlled the running game with three pickoffs and only six steals in eight attempts against him.
    McLean, who went 12-10 with a 3.16 ERA this year, is an NL Rookie of the Year candidate.

    One big question has already been answered for the New York Mets.
    Bo Bichette will be back in 2027.
    The third baseman exercised his player option worth $42 million for next year, according to a report Thursday by Will Sammon of The Athletic. Bichette signed a three-year, $126 million contract with the Mets last offseason with opt-outs after the first and second season.
    Bichette's Mets career started horribly, with his slash line sitting at .213/.271/.299 on June 2 with five homers and 28 RBIs. But he would go 4-for-4 the next day and finish the season with a respectable .260/.312/.390 mark with 18 homers and 78 RBIs.
    His return gives stability for president of baseball operations David Stearns to rebuild the Mets' lineup following a disappointing 74-88 season, last in the NL East.

    As the New York Mets slightly revamp their coaching staff, they are elevating one of their minor-league staffers to the majors.
    Mariano Duncan, the bench coach at Double-A Binghamton, has been promoted to the MLB staff, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported Monday. While Sherman didn't mention a specific title, Duncan is expected to have a wide-ranging role with the Mets' position players.
    Duncan, 63, played for 12 years in the majors, mostly as an infielder, and won a World Series with the 1990 Cincinnati Reds and 1996 New York Yankees, while also making the Fall Classic with the 1993 Philadelphia Phillies. Duncan was an All-Star with the Phillies in 1994.
    In addition to being with Binghamton in 2026, he was also with the Rumble Ponies in 2022 and with the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2021, the Mets' High-A Affiliate. Duncan has served in a variety of coaching roles since 2003 at all levels, from the Gulf Coast League up to Triple-A.
    The Mets recently said three coaches would not be returning to the major-league staff, which is the first under Andy Green, who took over as interim manager during the season and was given the full-time job at the end of the year.

    The 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Award finalists have been announced, and the New York Mets have three nominations to celebrate.
    First up is rookie pitcher Nolan McLean, who did an excellent job fielding his position on the mound. He finished third among all NL pitchers with +4 Defensive Runs Saved, though he did make three errors on the season. His competition is Chris Sale (Braves) and Michael McGreevy (Cardinals).
    Next is "backup" catcher Luis Torrens, who continues to supply tremendous value from behind the plate. Despite playing fewer than 700 innings at the position this year, he ranked second among all NL backstops with +12 DRS and +9 Fielding Run Value. The other finalists are Gabriel Moreno (Diamondbacks) and Freddy Fermin (Padres).
    Last but certainly not least we have rookie outfielder Carson Benge, who can add yet another feather to his cap after an all-around brilliant rookie year. He finished fourth among NL right fielders in DRS (+6) and second in FRV (+6), though his lackluster range (-1 Out Above Average) might have hurt his case with voters.
    The winners will be revealed on Nov. 1.

    The New York Mets are making some minor moves with their major-league coaching staff.
    Director of hitting Jeff Albert, quality assurance coach Danny Barnes and batting practice pitcher Kevin Mahoney will not be back on the major-league staff in 2027. All three could remain in the Mets' system and are free to pursue positions with other clubs.
    These are expected to be the only changes to new manager Andy Green's staff. Green took over during the season for Carlos Mendoza on an interim basis, then named the permanent manager just after the season ended.

    With reports of his addition to the front office coming to light the day before, the New York Mets on Thursday made the Derek Falvey move official. And now he has a title.
    Falvey was announced by the Mets as a senior advisor to baseball operations. As expected, this makes him a pretty powerful voice in the ear of David Stearns, the embattled president of baseball operations. The pair worked together previously in the Cleveland Guardians' front office.
    In his last stop, Falvey was POBO for the Minnesota Twins. He mutually left the position in January after a difference in philosophy following a change in the Pohlad family's ownership voice.
    One other move was announced by the Mets. Kris Gross was named assistant general manager of scouting. Gross' title had been vice president of amateur scouting, so his new role would seem to encompass all aspects of the Mets' scouting department.

    The Athletic's Will Sammon tweeted over the weekend that Mets owner Steve Cohen said on a broadcast, "We're going to add certain voices to the front office that are going to be helpful." Sammon noted that he "added that it doesn't have to be a GM, could be other ways to support." 
    That makes sense for a team that will wind up around 15 games under .500 and more than 20 games behind the division-leading Atlanta Braves.   
    Presently, David Stearns, 41, runs the show. He serves as the President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. He interned with the Pittsburgh Pirates while working to graduate from Harvard. Since graduating, he has worked with the Mets, MLB Central Office, Cleveland, the Astros. In September of 2015, he became the Brewers general at just 30 years old. He finished second in MLB Executive of the Year voting in 2018 and that offseason, he added the President of Baseball Operations to his GM duties. He stepped down from baseball operations for Milwaukee after the 2022 season to take an advisory role with ownership. 
    But all along, it seemed quite clear what was happening. It was just a matter of time before we would join the New York Mets. Steve Cohen had reached out to the Brewers a few times but were told no. When Stearns' Brewers contract came to an end, the Mets hired him the next day. 
    In other words, as much as many Mets fans wish the opposite, especially after Pete Alonso came back to Shea this past weekend, Stearns' job is safe. 
    Bringing in help will be very important. While Cohen said it doesn't have to mean a new GM, it could. I would guess it will mean several additions, assistant GMs, advisors, etc. 
    One name that has surfaced is former Twins President of Baseball Operations, Derek Falvey. Michael Marino, a national baseball writer tweeted that the "Mets have identified former Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey as someone of interest as they look to expand their front office."   
    When Derek Falvey, 43, left the Minnesota Twins organization in late January, there was no question that he would have plenty of opportunities in his future to be a team's GM or President of Baseball Operations, as he was with the Twins. It likely would be more about when he wanted to get back into the grind. 
    After the 2011 season, he was promoted to co-director of baseball operations, a title her shared with none other than David Stearns. Falvey joined the Twins in October 2016. He was hired as an executive vice president and chief baseball officer. In 2024, he was named president of baseball operations and also took on business operations too. 
    Falvey certain had mixed success with the Twins. His first year was all about observing the current state of the Twins organization as a whole. He really started implementing changes after the first season. They were able to put together a strong analytics department, they encouraged more collaboration between groups (such as amateur scouts and player development, etc.), they started using the most advanced technology available. The focus at first was about spending on infrastructure. 
    Frankly, when Twins ownership allowed him to spend, Falvey was able to be very creative. In 2019, they signed Nelson Cruz and the "Bomba Squad" set the MLB record for homers in a season. He signed hundred-million players (Josh Donaldson, Carlos Correa). He and Rocco Baldelli led the Twins to their first playoff series win in 2013 when they swept the Blue Jays. 
    And then Twins ownership told Falvey that he needed to reduce payroll by $30 million the next year, and then more the next year. At the trade deadline in 2025, Falvey traded 10 players. Most Twins fans, if they're being honest, would agree that the trades were all good with the exception of one. 
    Falvey and the Twins "mutually parted ways" at the end of January 2026.   
    SNY's Jim Duquette also tweeted that Royals special assistant Tom McNamara is also under consideration. 
    His career in professional baseball began as a player with 50 games for Low-A Bellingham in the Northwest League. That was the end of his playing career. He immediately transitioned to amateur scouting for the Mariners. He was a crosschecker for the Brewers. He was a professional scout with the Padres. He became the scouting director for the Mariners. And now he has been a Special Assistant to the GM with the Royals. 
    Certainly other names will surface in the coming weeks and months. Some will be legitimate. Some won't.

    Mets infield prospect Mitch Voit was the 38th overall draft pick in the 2025 draft out of the University of Michigan. He was the highest draft pick out of Michigan in 25 years. 
    Voit grew up near Milwaukee and attended Whitefish Bay High School. The 21-year-old looks to become the second person from his high school to go to the big leagues. The other is Cubs manager Craig Counsell.
    The Counsell family still lives in Whitefish Bay. His eldest son Brady Counsell was one year ahead of Voit in high school. He went on to the University of Minnesota for three years and then spent a season at Kansas. He was the 10th round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2025. 
    Jack Counsell was a year younger than Voit and when his time at Whitefish Bay came to an end, he followed Voit to Michigan. He spent the 2024 season with the Wolverines and has played the last two Big Ten seasons at Northwestern. 
    Back to Voit, he was a starter for Michigan right away as a freshman. He hit .267/.338/.439 (.777) with nine doubles, a triple, and seven home runs. In addition, he pitched 36 innings over 19 games and was 4-1 with five saves and a 3.25 ERA. The next year, he hit .292/.373/.572 (.945) with 20 doubles, two triples, and 14 home runs. On the mound, he made 10 starts and went 5-3 with a 5.49 ERA over 62 1/3 innings. However, in July of that year, he had elbow surgery which ultimately ended his career as a pitcher.   
    As a junior in 2025, fully focused on hitting, he hit .346/.471/.668 (1.140) with 17 doubles, four triples, and 14 home runs. The Mets liked what they saw enough to make him the 38th overall pick in the June 2025 draft. He ended the season with 22 games for St. Lucie. 
    He began the 2026 season with 76 games in Brooklyn. He hit .242/.349/.396 (.745) with 12 doubles and 11 home runs. He also had 36 steals. In late July, he moved up to Double-A Binghampton and really took off as a prospect. In 29 games, he hit .347/.430/.517 (.947) with 12 doubles, a triple, two homers and nine stolen bases. He had multiple hits in 11 of those 29 games including five of his first eight games. In that eighth game, he went 5-for-6 and was hitting .594/.658/.969 (1.627) with seven doubles, a triple, and a home run. He had six walks and four strikeouts. He was also 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.   
     
     
    The Mets and prospect ranking sites were really liking what they have seeing of Voit as well. Here at Grand Central Mets, he jumped up to the team's #4 ranked prospect. 
    Others noticed Voit too and liked what they saw. I know that his AA numbers were eyepopping, but we have box scores. We know they're real, even if some could argue that they were A.I. or something. 
    Add TMZ to the list who have researched the topic. From the title of the TMZ article earlier this week, "Mets Prospect Mitch Voit; DANGEROUSLY GOOD LOOKS AREN'T A.I."

    Many contenders are looking for catchers ahead of Monday's trade deadline, but the New York Mets are still reluctant to flip Luis Torrens, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
    Catchers such as Tyler Stephenson, Ryan Jeffers, and even former top overall draft pick Adley Rutschman are all rumored to be on the market on Monday ahead of the 6:00 pm ET deadline, but the Mets are happy to keep Torrens despite what they could potentially get in return.
    Heyman specifically said that the Mets have "no plans to move Luis Torrens, one of the best defensive catchers in game." Francisco Álvarez is the unquestioned starter at the position in Queens, but the organization greatly values Torrens’ contributions, particularly behind the plate.
    Torrens had, as of Monday afternoon, a career-high +12 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) behind the dish in just 479 1/3 innings, and ranks in the 95th percentile with nine runs of Fielding Run Value (FRV).
    He hasn’t produced much offensively, slashing .216/.279/.314 with two homers and a 69 wRC+ in 203 plate appearances, but he does most of his work on defense. He is not super cheap, but his salary is manageable for most contenders, as he signed a two-year, $11.5 million deal that keeps him under control through 2028. Still, the Mets don’t want to deal him and don’t have to do it, either.

    The New York Mets have made a minor trade with the Dodgers. The Mets are sending Ben Rortvedt to the Dodgers for reliever Chayce McDermott. The deal was first reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
    McDermott, a righty reliever, has posted a 4.55 ERA in Triple-A for the Dodgers this season before being DFA'd this week. His arsenal includes a Cutter (43.6% usage), Four-Seamer (43.6% usage), Slider (10.3% usage), and split-finger (2.6% usage) in limited MLB experience. With the number of relievers the Mets are moving or are projected to move, McDermott could make a solid impact at the MLB level for the Mets.
    Moving Rortvedt, who was claimed by the Mets this offseason from the Dodgers, will return to the place where he won a World Series in 2025 as the Dodgers sought out some help at the catcher position. Rortvedt did not make an appearance for the Mets at the big league position.
    The Mets moving a catcher could also signal that the reports from the New York Post this morning are true that the Mets are not looking to move either Luis Torrens or Francisco Alvarez.

    The New York Mets were not shopping Luke Weaver at the 2026 trade deadline. Now, with the reality of how expensive the relief market is, Chealsy Janes of SNY is reporting that it's "more definitive" that the right-hander will be moved.
    Weaver has been outstanding this season. In 43.0 innings, Weaver has posted a 1.88 ERA, a 2.87 FIP, and a 4.00 K/BB ratio. Weaver was transformed into one of baseball's top relievers over the past few seasons. Weaver has experience closing in the biggest of games from his time with the Yankees, which will make him more appealing to teams. He also has another year left on his contract and is owed $12.5M in 2022.
    The New York Post reported that the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago White Sox are among the teams to have varying interest in acquiring Weaver's services.

    With New York Mets right-handed starter Freddy Peralta set to depart, the only question is where he will land.
    Among the latest destinations to perk up is the Tampa Bay Rays, who lead the AL East.
    Robert Murray of FanSided said the Rays are looking for rental starting pitchers. One of those is the prize of this year's trade deadline, two-time reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers, while Peralta is one of the other options for the Rays.
    Peralta, who was scratched from his scheduled start Friday due to Monday's trade deadline, is making a very affordable $8 million this season, of which the acquiring team would be taking on about $2.35 million. Murray also included names of seven other rental starters, led by Clay Holmes, Peralta's Mets teammate, and Kevin Gausman of the Toronto Blue Jays.
    The 30-year-old Peralta has had a disappointing season for the Mets after being acquired in a high-profile trade from the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason. He has a 4.45 FIP (4.99 ERA) in 22 starts with 9.4% walk rate and 22.1% strikeout rate.
