G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 DeGrom! Scherzer! Pitching! Expect a 2-1 nailbiter or a 10-9 mess or anything in between or anything beyond. No, ya don't know what you're gonna get.Sunday afternoons at Citi have not been kind to the Mets, but I'll be heading out there soon (very good seats popularly priced) to see what I can do about it. My previous Sunday visit was the day Adam Wilk briefly entered our consciousness while Matt Harvey took a powder. I'm gonna guess Jake at least shows up.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 He hits a scumbacker and we lose.I'm blaming Zimmo for this despite his HR, bad whiff there in the 8th. Also Rosario made another costly error for the ultimate winning run.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 (edited) Considering the weather (gorgeous), the company of the lovely Mrs. F (also gorgeous) and the stakes (so low they passed not through but under the turnstile), it was about as tolerable a loss as one could, well, tolerate. If I couldn't have a Sunday win, I'd settle for a Sunday not embarrassment. Yeah, the leaving runners on with ample opportunities to tie it up or win it in the eighth and ninth was disgusting, but that's kind of a standard Met loss. Loved deGrom passing 200 innings, striking out 11. Wished he'd have come out for one tip of the cap or something to start the seventh, but Terry is blind to the rituals the diehards love.Kremlinologists are noting the removal of TC's likeness from the "...and the manager gives me a smile" segment of the Piano Man singalong and taking that as the strongest sign that Dear Leader will be removed imminently.Missed the usual cornball "Thanks Mets Fans" video clips of non-English speaking September callups and disgruntled relievers who've barely been used in a month, with the David Wright kicker edited in from 2012 or whenever he was last in one piece. They did give out some swell prizes to Appreciated Fans instead of the usual "here's a bag" goodies for answering questions right or wrong. Dude who knew Jack Hamilton was the last Met pitcher to grand slam (though I think he might have been slipped the answer -- or heard me shouting it) won a flat screen TV. Somebody else was awarded an Apple Watch, which I understand are a thing. Some dude didn't know what year Doc won the Cy Young and both Howie and I were visibly disgusted, though I was the only one who groaned loudly enough to draw stares.Don't know if it was highlighted on SNY, but Jose danced as far down the third base line as I'd ever seen a baserunner do outside of 42. Made sense. Rendon was shifted over for Smith, there was no risk for Reyes. Alas, unlike the Brooklyn Dodger patsy pitcher in the movie (Jackie was still a Montreal Royal), nobody discombobulated Scherzer and there was no balk.Going back for one more helping Wednesday night, 'cause it's what I do. Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Classic happy(ish) recap. They should have you in the booth Wed night for an inning or two. Someone get on that.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I'll still put them on the TV during the week this week, out of habit, but these summery September weekends have been just a lil' too nice for me to concern myself with Metly things, given the quality of play.
