Longtime Mets groundskeeper passes away

I am very saddened by this , I look forward to hearing Gary and Ron talk about Pete later, he seemed more to the Mets than a Groundskeeper and was much beloved .

The man loved his field. RIP to a great member of the Mets family.

Mets should wear a green ribbon for the former groundskeeper.

Amen. The fabric of Mets baseball as we've known it for generations can't help but fray when we lose someone whose name and work were so intrinsic to what the entire experience of being emotionally tethered to this franchise is all about. In 2017, Jimmy Breslin, Bill Webb, now Pete Flynn. Not a single box score notation, but you couldn't be a Mets fan without knowing who they were and what they did.

Pete tended to our field of dreams for half a century. Told us to keep off the lawn, too. Somebody had to.

In the middle of the eighties when the Mets were the METS, Pete had an endorsement deal, I think with Scott's TurfBuilder PlusTM. I worked for the Rockville Centre Parks Department. Among the permanent employees, you never saw such a bunch of bitter jealous middle-aged men. "I'm Pete Flynn blah-blah-blah!" The reality is that I was working with a half a dozen guys who desperately wanted to be Pete Flynn.

Pete Flynn (to Beatles): "Harrison, eh? I knew some Harrisons back in Lietrem. They'd rob you blind, those Harrisons."

George (to self): "OK, yeah, whatever."

Pete: "Auld Feargall Harrison would rob the pennies off a dead man's eyes."

George: "Paul, I think I've got a song."

Paul: "Good for you, wot, George!"

Pete: "AND LET'S GIVE IRELAND BACK TO THE IRISH!"

John: "How about we have us a quiet ride, shall we?"

Pete: "IN YOUR HOLE, LENNON! ♬A NATION ONCE AGAIN!! ♫ ♪"

I remember him as one of the heroes of 1986, restoring the field to playable after the fans tore up the turf celebrating the clinching of the NL East.

Excellent

I have no doubt Pete had a foul enough mouth, cursing in Ireland is part of the language, especially from his generation .

Did Gary and Keith mention this last night?, I split after 4 innings
