Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 The number of errors we've committed recently is staggering. The number of errors we've committed recently that were [u:2yrz17v9]Not[/u:2yrz17v9] scored as errors is even worse.

Was simply 'OB' back in 'BALL FOUR'i.e.. that guy's the worst pitcher in OB ... Cleveland has the worst post-game spread in OB ... etc.

Verducci's been depressed since Derek Jeter retired. There are always columnists declaring baseball to be on its deathbed. I found a 1970 baseball magazine with a cover story, "Did the Mets save baseball?"I think football is in greater trouble. And Mike and Mike on ESPN radio, in their post-finals LeBron funk, were declaring that the NBA is in trouble if the finals matchup is pretty much determined before the start of the season, and the regular season is a long, boring slog to the inevitable.

And explains why a bunch of us are willing to just go to bed and see what happened the next day.Relief pitchers ARE boring. Strikeouts and HRs are not boring if they are timely and really make a immediate difference in a game. Over and over again, not so exciting.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Exactly. I've been saying it for years. Games played at the extremes normalize the extremes, make the extremes boring, and perpetuate themselves. If the game is full of sluggers who strike out and hit homers, why worry about defense? Put a 6'4" guy at short. He's only getting three or four chances instead of seven to ten.And then, of course, you have one more guy who strikes out and hits homers.About six times more of this and we might have a game again:[tweet:39qao0er]https://twitter.com/kg_holler/status/876957795173752832[/tweet:39qao0er]
Guest cooby Guests Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Relief pitchers were fun when they used to be called "firemen" Remember that?Came in when there was a real need for a fresh arm, not because, heavens! It's the sixth inning!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Well, at least they held Justin Turner hitless.Later
