Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Gsellman versus Jarred Cosart, not Zack Cozart. No Padre has seen Bobby, whereas Granderson is 0/17 against 'red. If Bruce can go, expect to see Curtis sit.

I hate that the Mets punt defense this aggressively. Though you have to do Lagares in Center and Reyes in right...I'd just play Granderson, 0/17 is extremely small sample.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Might as well get all you can out of Granderson now seeing as how the days of him being a full-time player are numbered, quite possibly in the single digits.

Or Reynolds at short.Ceetar wrote:I hate that the Mets punt defense this aggressively.Agreed, but Reynolds at short wouldn't be punting, and given a little time, Reyes would probably give you at least as much in center as Granderson.Ceetar wrote:Though you have to do Lagares in Center and Reyes in right...Unless you do Reyes in center and Bruce Magoose in right.Ceetar wrote:I'd just play Granderson, 0/17 is extremely small sample.I don't know. Maybe, but I'm holding it side-by-side with his 24-for-145 this season.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 24, 2017 Author Posted May 24, 2017 I actually forgot about Reynolds. oops! Flores has good numbers against Cosart, also in a pretty meaningless sample, so he'll probably be in there somewhere. Granderson actually has a .910 OPS over the last 14 games.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Jose Reyes seems like he could be a natural in CF and lord knows he hits better than Lagares. You could move Lagares out of the organization and replace him with Nimmo. You might get a couple high A guys for Laggy. Pitchers please.

Pitchers please.Lagares is hitting better than Reyes this year.Reyes has no range in the infield, and no practice judging fly balls isn't going to give him good range in the outfield.Lagares adds a ton of value in the outfield.I'm still not convinced we shouldn't be aiming for a Cespedes-Lagares-Conforto outfield by July.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Bruce to the bench still doesn't get Conforto in the three-hole.

Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Conforto has a .425 OBP to go with the home runs. Nobody else on the team comes close. I don't know what sabermetricians think of batting order (as far as I know, they don't know either), but it's not a slam dunk to me that we'd get more out of Conforto by putting him in the middle of the order and somebody with a .320 OBP in the leadoff spot.

Leave him there.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Yeah, I think it's more about not having another great (or even good) option at leadoff than anything else.Reyes, even with his recent "resurgence" (finally off the interstate!!) is still OBA'ing under .300 and at least Terry isn't just falling back on Jose's 'lead-off-ed-ness' as his sole criteria. Grandy is at .166/.231 (BA/OBA); Lagares = .220/.304Would Walker at #1 and Conforto 3rd make a difference as opposed to the other way around? Prolly not.Chad Ochoseis wrote:I don't know what sabermetricians think of batting order (as far as I know, they don't know either) ...They're pretty much of the opinion that, as long as you don't do something really stupid, the specific order doesn't matter a whole lot.

I don't have the numbers in front of me to say how many more, but it's gotta be good for a few more runs moving him down to second or third. Traded for simply having a few more total AB here and there and the difference between Conforto and Reyes every once in a while. This is why you put your best hitters second or third. You still want guys one for them.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I'm sorry but Lagares just isn't that good. He had his career year on defense and can't steal first.I would take a couple pitchers for Lagares, promote Nimmo and be very satisfield.
