The Mets have signed RH RHP Neil Ramirez to a big-league contract, Ken Rosenthal says.

I don;t think I've ever heard of this guy but he's been hanging around for awhile and had stints with the Cubs, Brewers, Twins and Giants as recently as a few weeks ago.

He's been released by Toronto and San Francisco already this year, where he coiughed up 15 earned runs in 10.1 innings.

Neil Ramirez, everybody!

So he's an improvement then?

He did whiff 18 in those 10.1 innings!

Former 1st round draft pick! (Rangers, 44th overall, 2007)

From Virginia Beach so it'll be just like David Wright is back!

I think so! Those numbers look pretty good to me!

Compared to the last five days of the pen, they almost do:
NYM Pen since Wed May 10th: 15 IP; 74 Batters (so they've retired 45 of the 74 batters they've faced); 24 Runs (23 Earned)*; 28 Hits; 7 HR; 9 Walks; 1 HBP; 14 K; ERA = 13.81; WHIP = 2.47

THAT, my friends, is truly HOLY SHIT!!! territory.

* and that doesn't even take into consideration the inherited runners they've allowed to score ... too lazy to look it up

It's September 2008 Territory.

I don't know why, since he's our current cleanup hitter, but I just get the idea that moving on from Neil Walker is where our turnaround begins. And I think the Law of Neil Conservation means that the acquisition of Neil Ramirez will somehow trigger the end of Neil Walker's tenure.

There aren't enough exclamation points extant to emphasize what a move this is.

Ramirez will be in uniform tonight wearing #55.

And the Kelly Johnson dream dies a little bit more.
