Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Jon Lester and not Arrieta? Surprising.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 What's the holdup on guys like Bumgarner or Felix Hernandez? Those are no brainers no? I wonder if they are battling some injury.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 Mostly it's just that I haven't seen any confirmation of those guys anywhere and I didn't want to list someone's idea of projected starters as if those were a done deal. There have been lists like that floating around since mid-February but reality tends to get in the way of such stuff.Bumgarner started yesterday in what was described as his last spring tune-up so it's definitely not an injury in his case, but the article also didn't say specifically when his next one would be although it would certainly be shocking if it wasn't OD. Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 I know you've all been on the edge of your seats wondering who the Angels and Rockies were going to throw out there on Opening Day.Well wonder no more. And now that you know the identity of their top starters you can probably also cease wondering if those are the two teams likely to meet up in the World Series. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Surprised to see Graveman over Sonny Gray in Oakland. Checking the record, it seems Gray strained a lat three weeks ago.I wonder if anybody has studied whether the time lost to be cautious with all your pitchers is greater than the time gained in the alleged reduced incidence of catastrophic injury to the few.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Author Posted April 1, 2017 Other Opening Day pitchers this weekend whose names you might recognize include: Dustin Nippert, Carlos Villanueva, Andy Van Hakken, Henry Sosa, Jeff Manship, Brooks Raley, Merrill Kelly, Donn Roach, Zack Patrick, Hector NoesiThose are the starters for the Doosan Bears, Hanwah Eagles, Nexon Heroes, LG Twins, NC Dinos, Lotte Giants, SK Wyverns, KT Wiz, Sansung Lions, and Kia Tigers of the Korean Baseball Organization.Despite a limit of 3 foreigners per team, every one of the ten teams in the KBO had one of those foreigners as their opening day starters on Friday. All of the above except for Petrick and Kelly have some ML experience on their resume including Jeff Manship who pitched two scoreless innings for the Indians in last year's WS.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I've long thought MLB should give an award for jeffmanship. Jeff McKnight, for instance, was for years a model of jeffmanlike behavior.
