Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I was acquired just as the season started, opened the year as the third-string catcher, and for patches of the summer, ended up with the first string. That may not have been the way the plan was meant to shake out, but it was fine by me. I know, you're thinking that the ceiling isn't very high with this guy, but the floor isn't that low.So if d'Arnaud don't turn the corner and Plawecki don't take flight, aren't you glad you have me around? I surprised you once. Can I do it again?[fimg=333:2ebdhzez]http://doublegsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/rene-rivera-mlb-chicago-white-sox-new-york-mets-1-850x560.jpg[/fimg:2ebdhzez] [fimg=387:2ebdhzez]http://mediadownloads.mlb.com/mlbam/2016/05/01/images/mlbf_643084983_th_45.jpg[/fimg:2ebdhzez][fimg=327:2ebdhzez]http://media.nj.com/mets_main/photo/rene-rivera-d99e52ceafa38f6f.jpg[/fimg:2ebdhzez] [fimg=393:2ebdhzez]http://metsmerizedonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/rene-rivera-jeurys-familia.jpg[/fimg:2ebdhzez]

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Several stories coming out of Spring Training have been about how Travis is throwing better and the pitchers have been learning how to hold runners on first better.Rivera's playing time will be inversely proportional to how well those lessons have been learned. But however many games he plays, he'll go .235/ .295/ .370.Later

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 1 year/$1.75M (2017). Re-signed by NY Mets 12/2/16 (avoided arbitration).Yeah, I guess they ain't gonna pay him $2 mil to be a desert zeek. I'm never wrong, sometimes.

Plawecki's done nothing to push him out. Maybe a few more than 5 dingers, but the rest seems right. And Travis's throwing has been hit or miss this spring, which doesn't bode well unless he's truly turned a corner offensively.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Yeah I don;t even think Rivera rises or falls based on anyone else's game; he's the defensive minded catcher, once or twice a week starter, and the very last pinch hitter. If Travis fails it'll be Plawecki with the starts or a trade. Also on board with the 244/5/22 line but I'll shoot low for him: 243/4/21WRITE IT DOWN
