Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Don't usually go for these composed covers and Mr. Met's head looks out of proportion but Terry The Trainer is great.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Thoughts on the Covers!I don't remember if it was ever confirmed that Familia and Colon were pissed at Terry. I feel like that was more of a fan/media thing. Voted for "In Complete Control".It's hard to vote for any Familia covers right now. The timing on those charges couldn't have been worse for his prospects in the Tabloid Cover Derby. It's too bad because that Cubs game was a thrilling moment in the season. The pic used by both Newsday and the News sucks. It looks like he's trying to mount the reader.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 I get the feeling that this cover, which I think is great, is making some kind of pop-culture reference that I'm not picking up on. Was there a movie called Men in Salmon or something that I'm not aware of?
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 The movie Twins![fimg=500]http://www.gstatic.com/tv/thumb/movieposters/11311/p11311_p_v8_af.jpg[/fimg]
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 Rats! I was hoping that there was a movie called Men in Salmon.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Why did they feel the need to change the color of the suits? I wonder if that was intentional.Danny DeVito's head seems to be photoshopped about as well as Bart's.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Twins was 1988! You've been not paying attention to pop culture for a long time!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 Well, some aspects of pop culture anyway.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 I remember the movie TWINS -- and may even have seen it once upon a time -- but there's no way I would have made a connection between that Thor/Bart cover and the nearly three decades old movie poster without prompting from the studio audience.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 Yeah, I was aware of the movie as well, and could even have named the two stars, but I also (obviously) didn't make the connection between the Daily News cover and the movie poster.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 That Houdini act Familia pulled back when we liked him was one of the most Amazin' innings in Mets history. It was, I recall reading at the time, the first and therefore only instance of loading the bases with nobody out while protecting a one-run ninth-inning lead and not allowing anybody to score.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2016 Author Posted November 26, 2016 This poll closes on Tuesday. I'm giving it a bump in case there are any tiebreaking votes out there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2016 Author Posted November 28, 2016 This poll, which closes tomorrow morning, remains tied. I'm giving this a final bump in case there are any more votes out there. If the voting is still tied tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, I'll kick off a tiebreaker thread.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Somehow I forgot to vote in this one. Untied. For now anyway.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2016 Author Posted November 28, 2016 Is it possible that if you're voting and commenting at the same time, that you're not clicking the two submit buttons separately? That would prevent your vote from being tallied. You need to click "Submit Vote" to register the votes, and then Submit to submit your comments.
