Mauer fouled off pitches 6 times with Dozier running. Dozier was probably as relieved as I was when Mauer finally struck out.

You can't take these guys into extras at home and not beat em. Close this deal, somebody!

Well, he got out of it.
But, once again, an 11-pitch no-muss/no-fuss inning from Reed is followed by a tense 25 pitch slog by Familia.

It took 11 pitches just to get Mauer for the final out.

Yes, but that also means it took him 14 just to get the first two outs and with each of the last two hitters he faced he got to 3-2 and all those extra throws after getting ahead of the hitters, which is something that been an emerging pattern with him far too often during the second half of the season.
Not that I'm saying it's a critical flaw or anything, but it's a large contrast particularly when they come on the heels of the efficiency of most of Reed's innings.

I agree with you. Familia generally gets the job done, but it often has some anxiety and drama along the way.

But he's such a huge fan, he said so during the interview part earlier in the game.

Don't dis Kevin James. He was doing publicity for another movie and was scheduled to take batting practice at Yankee Stadium. He was given a Yankee uni but refused to wear it.

I'll dis him all day. Fuck his phone.

And fuck Byron Buxton, too.

Meanwhile, the Twins retake the lead with a leadoff home run to open the 11th inning.

You don't get enough praise. This, and all of what you do, is brilliant.

Thank you. I'm just a crazy fan. Getting crazier as this at bat goes on....

Oh well, on to the 12th.

Guy pitched Reyes tough. Kept it far enough away from him that he couldn't keep it fair, then busted him inside.
Bad luck earlier on that Plawecki smash - both that the pitcher got a piece of it and then the way it bounced. Thought that one was going to end it.
