Bernie Williams had a heckuva career. He wasn't just a guitar player.

Well yeah, but he does belong in that Mattingly/Munson/Howard/Maris/Martin group of "lesser" greats in Monument Park. But once the floodgates were opened for the Martinezes and O'Neills, its hard not to be overly cynically about whom the Yankees now install in their version of a HOF.

It would be one thing if it was done all along, with names like Hank Bauer, Lou Piniella, Roy White, Frank Crosetti, Tommy Henrich, and even players whom made the actual Hall through the back door like Earle Coombs, Tony Lazzeri and Joe Gordon, etc but prior to the last decade MP had been more or less reserved for the "elite" or "in memoriaum tributes" in franchise history.

Only the Red Sox. Rays do not have a HOF.

The Rays may not have a HOF but they retired Boggs's number. Doesn't that count?

Eh, I see a lot of differences in the honors. I.e. Number retirements get bigger non-team specific news coverages, etc

Meaning what? That the Rays retiring Boggs's number counts or doesn't count?

How can you, you of all Yankee fans, use the name Munson and "lesser" in the same
thought or sentence? Hmpff.

The numbers 31 as a Met and 24 as a Mariner were not officially retired until this summer.

Despite Griffey Jr in 2013 and Piazza, also in 2013, being inducted into their respective team's Halls in previous years.

Either way, doesn't make much difference with Boggs as an answer since the MFYs haven't honored him in either fashion (retired number or MP plaque).

Yeah but I wish you'd answer my question so I can figger out how this quiz even works. Do retired numbers count here? Because I think they do according to the original post, but then your response to the Rickey Henderson and Wade Boggs guesses indicates that retired numbers don't count.

Yes, I didn't think I needed to spell it out after mentioning Henderson, and the fact that a question revolves around retired number (and others in the area of the numbers such as "SHEA" and Kiner's mic in Citi Field) honorees that are not honored in their franchises' version of a Hall.

Hence all of the franchises who do not have one do not count in these questions.
Franchises without such honors:
Cubs, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Marlins (whom, with the retirement of #24 in Seattle, along with the Nationals are the only teams with no non-Robinson official retired numbers), Pirates, Rockies, Athletics, Rays, Tigers and White Sox.

1) One person has been honored, in one way or another, by 4 separate franchises, and another has been honored by three separate franchises Name them, and the franchises.

ANSWERS
4
Frank Robinson; Orioles, Reds, Nationals, Indians

3
Nolan Ryan Rangers, Astros and Angels (HahnSolo)

2) Oddly enough, 14 Retired Numbers, or variations of such an honor such as Broadcaster Mics, names, etc (not including Jackie Robinson's #42) represent players or personnel that for whatever reasons are not enshrined in their respective team's Halls.

To be fair and some hints, 8 are due to a franchise's Wall of Honor not representing a team's relocation or non-playing personnel, 1 is a number symbolizing an event as opposed to a specific person, 1 is a number that was officially retired for a brief period (oddly enough the number has since been retired again, but no recognition has been made for its previous honoree) and 2 are broadcast honorees whom have yet to be selected, in one form or another, to their franchise's hall.

Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) 11 Carl Hubbell 1944 P 1928-1943
Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) 4 Mel Ott 7/17/1948 OF/Mgr 1926-1947/1942-1948
Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) 3 Bill Terry 1984 1B/Mgr 1923-1936/1932-1941
Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) NY Christy Mathewson 1988 P/Coach 1900-1916/1919-1921
Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) NY John McGraw 1988 INF/Mgr 1902-1907/1902-1932
Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) Radio Mic Lon Simmons Broadcaster 1958-1973, 1976-1978, 1996-2002
Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) Radio Mic Russ Hodges Broadcaster 1949-1970
Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) Radio Mic Jon Miller Broadcaster 1997-
Giants (Wall of Honor for SF Players Only) 20 Monte Irvin 6/26/2010 OF 1949-1955
Padres 6 Steve Garvey 4/16/1988 1B 1983-1987 (HahnSolo)
Reds Radio Mic Marty Brennaman 2007 Broadcaster 1974-
Reds Radio Mic Waite Hoyt 2007 Broadcaster 1944-1965, 1972
Reds 5 Willard Hershberger 1940-1942 C 1938-1940
After being unretired, it would be re-retired due to being the number worn by Johnny Bench
Indians 455 Fans 5/29/2001 Jacobs Field Sellout Streak 7/12/1995-4/4/2001 (Chad Ochoseis)

3) Finally, an interesting oddity, in my going through the names, I've found two instances where an honoree has the same names, but different persons entirely. One set is a 1940s position player, and a 1960s pitcher. And the other set is a long time infielder, and a long time coach and skipper.
