Terry over manages again. And with extras looming, the failure to get another player to replace Cabrera might hurt them.

I would not do that. Ugh, the game these days.

Tie game, 9th inning, who do you go to instead?

Lugo. Colon. I'm just not a fan of using closers in the 9th no matter what. We could have squeezed more from some of the earlier relievers. No one manages for extras anymore, it seems.

Yeah, I mean, when he's off, he's off. He's aiming that shit and comes in straight as an arrow. Stop trying to throw 103.

If we could get 2 out of Juerys. I'll change that tune.

To me if Fammy fails, very bad. Horrible. If he succeeds, after the 9th we are pretty much throwing the game to the wind in Lugo, who is the only RP left.

Closers usually pitch the ninth. It's pretty much in their job description.

Maybe we should trade Travis after all.

I understand that's what they do these days. I don't like the logic. And I know you can say why throw the game to the wind earlier with Lugo? For me, because you don't lay down your high card until you have the hand under control.

(I'm not even sure what I mean by that, lol)

Back in the day Tug would go 2. Or 3. Or 6, although I don't expect 6 these days, and didn't then.

Yea, I'm an old man and there's a cloud.

whew.

I hate that these Yankee games that don't count for shit mean so much to us.

I don't get what you're saying here. It's what they always have done. As long as there is a beast called a "closer." They wouldn't/couldn't be "closers" if they did not pitch the ninth the closing inning.

It wasn't the closing inning tonight.

So you'd rather definitely use Lugo in a tie game in the 9th than maybe use Lugo if and when we get to extras?
Not buying that logic at all.

Yes, but we're going in circles here. You wrote

No matter what? I assume you mean you're not a fan of using closers in the 9th unless there is a save to be had.

The bigger problem here is that we're taking the collar against the likes of Tyler Clippard and Adam Warren.
And we're in 'Pop-Up' mode again.

d'Arnaud due for a big hit.
Only problem is that with Wilmer on 1st it'll have to be a HR because a triple might not be enough.

As soon as it was tied I would have changed my strategy to be prepared for extra innings. And that would change the entire set up. And sure, sometimes you will have to turn to arms that are bottom end. I would hold back the closer as long as I possibly could and try to get him in that position. At a certain point tho even that plan goes down the drain.

But you do realize that there will never be a save situation once you hit the 9th inning tied, right?
So either you use Familia in a tie game or you resolve not to use him at all.

He looked like he didn't know where the ball was going, and he threw a bunch of pitches, but I'd've stuck with Familia in the ninth.
