bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Terry over manages again. And with extras looming, the failure to get another player to replace Cabrera might hurt them.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Familia for the non save. I have nervous.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Yeah, come on, gents. This is a textbook move.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Lugo. Colon. I'm just not a fan of using closers in the 9th no matter what. We could have squeezed more from some of the earlier relievers. No one manages for extras anymore, it seems.

He's aiming that shit and comes in straight as an arrow. Stop trying to throw 103.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 If we could get 2 out of Juerys. I'll change that tune.To me if Fammy fails, very bad. Horrible. If he succeeds, after the 9th we are pretty much throwing the game to the wind in Lugo, who is the only RP left.

Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Maybe we should trade Travis after all.

For me, because you don't lay down your high card until you have the hand under control.(I'm not even sure what I mean by that, lol)Back in the day Tug would go 2. Or 3. Or 6, although I don't expect 6 these days, and didn't then.Yea, I'm an old man and there's a cloud.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 whew. I hate that these Yankee games that don't count for shit mean so much to us.

As long as there is a beast called a "closer." They wouldn't/couldn't be "closers" if they did not pitch the ninth the closing inning.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Yes, but we're going in circles here. You wroteI'm just not a fan of using closers in the 9th no matter what.No matter what? I assume you mean you're not a fan of using closers in the 9th unless there is a save to be had.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) The bigger problem here is that we're taking the collar against the likes of Tyler Clippard and Adam Warren. And we're in 'Pop-Up' mode again. Edited August 1, 2016 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 d'Arnaud due for a big hit.Only problem is that with Wilmer on 1st it'll have to be a HR because a triple might not be enough.

And that would change the entire set up. And sure, sometimes you will have to turn to arms that are bottom end. I would hold back the closer as long as I possibly could and try to get him in that position. At a certain point tho even that plan goes down the drain.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 But you do realize that there will never be a save situation once you hit the 9th inning tied, right? So either you use Familia in a tie game or you resolve not to use him at all.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Leadoff walk to start the 10th. For fuck's sake.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 He looked like he didn't know where the ball was going, and he threw a bunch of pitches, but I'd've stuck with Familia in the ninth.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Mets, don't forget the baserunner again.
