I recall seeing him come up the ranks as a B-Met. He looked like the real deal last year before his injury. And I recall that he's from Colombia (was he the first Met from Colombia?). I'm sorry that we won't get to see him hitting his stride as a Met.

Heckuva debut in Miami two years ago, with a homer and a triple in a loss. Never made himself indispensable. Seemed like he would have been up here more when the Mets were short of sparkplugs.

I wish him well -- but not Murphy well.

I didn't see all that much but I liked everything I saw with this guy. The story was that he wasn't ready yet. I didn't buy that story.

Miscast last September when they had him wearing 16. He was a single-digit kinda guy if there ever was one.

Guys who get traded tend to get traded.

This is what I fear as well. I think Herrera will be pretty good, and we'll kick ourselves for giving him up for Jay Bruce. The only silver lining here is that I suck at gauging talent.

I thought Victor Diaz would be pretty good.

Herrera, who I mostly expected to head right to the majors for Cincinnati, reported instead to Louisville, where his debut as a bat included three hits, including a triple off the centerfield wall.

Prospects are tough. I was bummed when the Mets traded Alex Escobar and I though Fernando Martinez would be a star. And I today I heard on a podcast that Jacob deGrom was never a fixture on prospect lists.

So, the Mets got an established, 29-year-old slugger and we have a fairly good idea what he is and what he will become. He's under contract for this year and next. We traded someone who may or may not develop into a solid major-leaguer and has struggled a bit in the limited exposure he has had in the majors so far. And we do have some middle infield depth. It's a good deal, especially if Walker comes back or turns into a draft pick.

I don't think Walker is returning OR turns into a draft pick (you wanna offer him $15-16 mil?), but I also don't see dealing Dilson as being dependent on any of that.

Like I said when the trade first went down, you have to give to get and no one is giving you potentially 900 ABs of Jay Bruce for a couple rolls of athletic tape and some low A-ball [crossout]pro[/crossout]suspect.
And I don't know that the Mets soured on Dilson, as some here seem to believe, so much as they know he's limited to 2nd base and that there are other candidates -- Reynolds, Cecchini, Flores, Reyes -- that can fill that role and others as well and that there's always a chance that someone else coming up the pipeline later on. Often the worst mistake a team can make is believing that certain players, particularly unproven ones, are irreplaceable.

The Mets. Ultimately, they flipped Marlon Byrd at the end of 2013 for Jay Bruce in the middlish of 2016. We'll see, but that doesn't look like particularly bad work, right?

It's obviously all in the soup, but I consider Dilson to be the Byrdbooty, and Vic Black to be the Buckbounty.

Interestingly, Black, unemployed the last time I checked, has more WAR thus far.
