Shall we also discuss Jonathan Lucroy?

I want to believe in super buff Juan Lagares 2.0. That would be awesome if both ends of that platoon ended up happening.

Right? Could totally be the next big thing.

I know we have a lot riding on Smith and Rosario, but I feel like someone (or sometwo) from the group of Nimmo, Lagares, Plawecki, Rivera and Flores is (are) going to break out in 2018.

This is true. Although it can be argued that Flores may have already broken out, but we haven't fully seen the blossom because of playing time limited by injuries and opportunities.

I'd add in d'Arnaud, Cecchini, Reynolds, and Rivera too. Bartender, potential breakouts all around. My treat.

Tebow, too. Why not? It's February 1.

Flores is what he is. A lefty masher. he's had his shot.

I don't believe in Lagares anymore, but there's still potential he can be useful if he hits more HR, or takes more walks, and still plays elite defense.

Nimmo is probably already good.

Really the biggest hope of mine is not that Smith and Rosario are great, but that they're not bad. If they can be simply average (and Plaw/d'Aran too) the Mets will have pretty much no holes because the NL one. I think having real weak spots might end up being better for all around run creation.

Flores had a .765 OPS against righties last year.

Harrison, by comparison, was .745.

I know speed and defense and stuff, but do you want to give away talent for a guy who doesn't hit as well as Wilmer?

The Mets are going to have to make an Ike/Duda type decision with TdA & Plawecki at some point, but I don't think they're at that point now.
Selling either now would be selling low and there's simply not the pressure to do so, nor is there an obvious upgrade candidate sitting out there just waiting for the right deal.

This. And as a rule, i don't like signing catchers over 30.

maybe. Catcher workload being what it is, it's not as pressing. Maybe this doesn't happen with Gonzalez here, but the idea of putting a catcher at first against lefties occasionally, and the 12ish DH games make it a little less pressing.
