Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 i had Taillon stashed on my fantasy team roster since the start of the season, so of course he's making his major league debut against the Mets! Oh well, at least i know he'll put up some good numbers. Cold comfort for the sweep we're about to endure, I know, but it's what i got.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 NY Mets at PittsburghWhen: 7:05 PM ET, Wednesday, June 8, 2016Where: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaSportsDirect Inc.The Pittsburgh Pirates were stuck in a 2-7 slump before a rainout on Monday and a doubleheader on Tuesday changed the momentum entirely. The Pirates have a chance to earn a sweep in the compressed three-game series when they give right-hander Jameson Taillon his major-league debut and welcome the New York Mets for the finale on Wednesday.Pittsburgh earned twin 3-1 victories in the doubleheader and did just enough on offense to get past Steven Matz and Jacob deGrom while getting solid efforts from the back end of its own rotation Jon Niese and Juan Nicasio. The Pirates will give Francisco Liriano an extra day of rest on Wednesday and line up the rest of the rotation following the doubleheader by promoting Taillon, who was the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2010 between Bryce Harper and Manny Machado. Taillon will be taking on a New York offense that totaled two runs in its last three games and has dropped seven of its last 10 contests. The Mets managed 10 runs in those seven losses and slugger Yoenis Cespedes went 0-for-7 in the doubleheader while dealing with a hip ailment.TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), ROOT (Pittsburgh)PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (6-2, 1.91 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Jameson Taillon (NA)Syndergaard, who went 38th overall to the Toronto Blue Jays in that same 2010 draft, is already well-established in the majors and is quickly becoming the ace of a strong New York staff. The Texas native allowed two runs and struck out nine in seven innings to earn a win at Miami on Friday and has 90 strikeouts in 70 2/3 frames overall this season. Syndergaard made one start against Pittsburgh in his 2015 rookie campaign and allowed four runs one earned over six innings in a loss.Taillon was on a fast track to the majors before Tommy John surgery and a second surgery to repair a hernia robbed him of the 2014 and 2015 campaigns. "I feel like I'm in a position to say I put in the work for it. I wasn't just given this," Taillon told reporters. "It's definitely sweet to be here." The 24-year-old earned his way to the majors by going 4-2 with a 2.04 ERA in 10 starts for Triple-A Indianapolis this season.WALK-OFFS:1. The Pirates have won nine straight against the Mets.2. New York SS Asdrubal Cabrera is 0-for-12 with five strikeouts in the last three games.3. Pittsburgh LF Starling Marte (ankle) left the first game of Tuesdays doubleheader and did not play in the nightcap.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Color me surprised Kelly is in uniform, much less in the lineup.Much love, Ty!
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I'm guessing this is Kelly's last chance to do something of significance before he's replaced by, um, Kelly.[youtube:32zfo07i]a7D3GPKNcSI[/youtube:32zfo07i]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I heard the Mets only got Kelly after he first hustled Tatum O'Neal into going to the Stones concert with him.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 And so it begins:- the guy who never makes an error makes an error- the staff who leads the league in fewest walks follows the error with a walk- Pirate hits, whether hard or soft, are placed where they just elude fielders- even slow runners steal uncontested- the NYM pitcher requires 2+ inning's worth of pitches to get through the 1st so as to ensure that 5 or 6 is the maximum tonight- and Met bats continue their tradition of one -- but no more than one -- hit per inning and if more than one hit does happen then a GiDP is mixed in between so as to cut down on any potential runs createdAnd, as our history vs the Pirates indicates, 2 runs against is almost enough already to mean we have little chance of winning if the staff shuts them down for the rest of the game
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) Maybe it's the possible sweep talking but my God, the Pirates are annoying:Shut up Cervelli. Once a MFY, always a MFY. Your team is winning. You suck.John Jaso just seems like a jerk. That hair, that stance. You suck. The vendor with the handle-bar mustache who pauses by the screen and watches the game. You suck. And that terrible organist. Stop playing Hava Naglia every inning. You suck. Edited June 8, 2016 by Guest

You suck.I don't mind organ music, but I noticed last night that they play it there between pitches!!That, unfortunately, is part of the modern philosophy that us sports fans are so completely ADD that we can't be allowed even five seconds without outside stimulation of some sort. Hockey arenas are the biggest culprit (am I really more entertained by hearing 12 seconds of 'Born to Run' while they line up for a face-off?) and God knows the pyrotechnics going on during NBA & NFL games. Baseball is just too stupid not to think they have to copy it.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 This is going to be a hard play to rule correctly on.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Ty Kelly says, "Wait - Don't send me down!"
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Frayed Knot wrote: ... and if more than one hit does happen then a GiDP is mixed in between so as to cut down on any potential runs createdAnd now even in an inning with a 2R HR, the runs scored in an inning with a walk plus 2 XBHs is held down due to a GiDP mixed in. Even when we don't suck we suck.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Not the most graceful of routes from home to second on that double, but well struck, Syndergaard.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 If Syndergaard's hair doesn't cross the plate until three seconds after he does, can the Pirates appeal that he left 3rd too early?
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Can we leave Neil Walker in Pittsburgh? It's obviousl that he still thinks that he's playing for the Pirates....
