That's one of the craziest Topps cards I ever saw. I didn't recall that card when I assembled the cards for this thread -- even though I collected cards in '73. All those cars, and Alvarado's head is about the size of a third of a dime. Today, the player's lot (if that's what it is) would have its fair share of Ferraris and Porsches.

That's also an enormous number on that guy's back.

In 1973, the Sox had no 38's. In 1972, they had two, but both were caucasians. In 1971, they had none. Before that, he was with Cleveland. So 38 remains some sort of spring training mystery guy. Could that number have been painted in?
