I'll go with what Soup says. I actually can't remember whose voice is which.

Is it over?

One out in the top of the eighth.

What is over is the terror of Cespedes leaping into the crowd. So many more bad things can happen than good ones there.

He did that in left field?

Yup, nearly hurt a couple o' fans who were naturally looking up in the air and not seeing that beefy, spike-clad athlete bearing down.

Fish get one back.

And yet one more baserunner erased on the paths.
And if Gordon didn't want the DP at 2nd he had the option of going for Cespedes trapped off 1st too.

I'll never accuse Cespedes of lack of hustle again, but I do have a problem with his thought process. He got a foot up on that padded wall and launched himself into the crowd. Amazing no one was hurt.

Not complaining. I like to see players go all out. If he made that catch it would have trumped Jeter's (was that in postseason?).

2 outs.

It's crazy when you think how ballplayers' spikes on concrete are almost as useless as ice skates.

Jeter's was legend-massaging bullshit. He caught almost in fair territory and launched himself after the catch.

Here's the way you do it.

I never saw that play by Wright before! Excellent! Thanks :)
I see that Jeter play like once a week, but I had never seen Wright's.
So your point is well taken.

Nice to get a W but jeez, how about some offense, dudes?

Offense hasn't checked in yet and the Mets are 3-5. From that standpoint, looking pretty solid.

Facebook is pissing me off. I was driving all day and figured I'd stay off the CPF and keep myself in suspense until I had a chance to watch on MLB.TV this afternoon. But I figured a quick look at Facebook would be harmless. Nope...they now give a helpful headline that says "Mets win! How will you celebrate????"

Eff you, Facebook.

Anyway, I'm in the bottom of the third. Flores (!) flashing some leather with a 3-6-3 DP.

Jeter's catch was a very nice one and came during a tense moment of a very exciting game: 2nd & 3rd, 2-outs, 12th inning of a tie vs the Red Sox that the Yanx would go on to win in bottom 13 (July 1, 2004).
But on a rating of sheer difficulty and/or spectacular-ness I'm not sure it makes the cut for top-20 into the stands plays just among infielders in 21st century baseball alone. Shit, Nolan Arenado may have 3 or 4 better all by himself and he's still like 17 years old. And even top-20 is assuming you consider it an into the stands play in the first place since, as mentioned, he caught it essentially crossing the foul line and was merely unable to stop.

Simply because most members of the sports media only paid attention to baseball games in that era if they involved the Yanx & Sawx doesn't make it the best play or even all that close.
