He seemed to be a good teammate, a sparkplug, and a positive influence on the young team. Thank you for your service Juan as you andale away from us.

His overall numbers -- .213 BA, .301 OBA -- don't look like much in retrospect, but the quality of those hits (15 of 28 went for XBs) and seemingly the timing of them (tough to prove but reasonable in small samples) made him a rather valuable addition for a team fighting to break a losing season streak. He wound up starting 28 games and getting nearly 150 PA over those final two months; a decent amount for a guy on his 3rd team of the season, who didn't arrive until the end of July, and was essentially without a position. And that's even before you add the oft-reported clubhouse quotient into the mix.

All that said, the same things that made him useful in the short run either are unlikely to repeat or work against him when planning a team for the entire season so it's not a bit surprising that they didn't pursue him for a full term.

1) Arrived with Kelly Johnson a week before Cespedes, and even though they were merely decent, functional offensive players, the lights absolutely went on offensively with their arrival. Of course, Conforto came up at the same time. Then a week later, Cespedes came and the laser beams hit the disco ball

2) He really gave his body up in the injury that ultimately effectively ended his regular season. There was going to be a roster pinch, anyhow, but he probably wasn't going to be the guy left behind.

3) The prophecy failed. He was supposed to help a team win a championship every fifth year. Maybe he'd have brought the trophy home if the team was able to get him out on the field more. As it is, he went 1-1. How many other Mets are there with a 1.000 batting average in the World Series? I suppose Jesse Orosco is one.

I liked him and his gut. (We discussed other players like that in a thread when he got here)
I still like him and wish him well.
As used to be said, you could wake him up at 6 in the morning New Years Day, and he could stagger out of bed with a huge hangover and hit a line drive off the first pitch he saw. (I first heard that said about Smokey Burgess)

IMO the most important acquisition (offensively) of 2015 for about a week. Paid immediate dividends. Got hurt.
This is a lot of cards for a guy off the bench who joined late in the season. But if a player did something I thought was notable, I'd make a card.

I liked him. He seemed to be a positive influence on the bench. His numbers weren't very good, but as Frayed Knot said, he seemed to get his hits when they mattered most.
