I'm relatively new to this stuff, and not sure if Fangraphs is a good measure of these things. I was hunting around for some sort of formula, or writeup, but couldn't find one.

Don't know what to make of it, so I'll leave it to those more in the know.

FanGraphs Depth Chart projections are a combination of ZiPS and Steamer projections with playing time allocated by our staff.

I'm not sure if those formulas are public or not, but there is more info out there.

I have to wait until Sandy is all done. And if I know him he's not finished with the pen and probably won't be til the last minute.

And I saw talk this morning the Mets are working on Cespedes for lesspedes. I didn't even read even one of the articles, but the headlines looked encouraging (if true). And that could change everything(not holding my breath though).

By the way, Fangraphs only projects 2 more wins for the Mets, putting us 2nd behind Washington.

The thing about those progressions is that they're always going to gravitate toward the mean, averaging out several projections. But the actual season is only played once, and a few teams are going to have extraordinary seasons, and some teams are going to tank, meaningfully outside the seeming range of their projections.

And teams doing well will muscle up at the deadline, and teams tanking will sell off parts and tank even more. That's probably not typically accounted for in the projections.
