Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 .Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days.Kirk Nieuwenhuis has a three-homer game.Jacob deGrom is going to the All-Star Game.In the All-Star Game, deGrom strikes out the side on ten pitches.Decision time for Sandy Alderson. The News says that Harvey is still the ace.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Some decent choices here if only because the various tabs came up with very different takes on the same topic: Less obvious = more interestingHIGHLY ILLOGICAL and NIEUW'S FLASH are better than TRI-UMPHANT Going lower case with the 'DR. d' showed a bit of cleverness as opposed to the hackneyed TO THE BATMOBILE which shows none.I'm guessing that with SANDY'S CHOICE they were going for a SOPHIE'S CHOICE connection but that one is a much bigger stretch than tying in 'Star Trek' in the Kirk headline
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Tri, Nieuw's, DRd for me.Yeah, tying Kirk to logic was poor horse sense.

The allusion is clearly to Animal House.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I went with Nieuw's Flash and Perfect 10.I really don't like the way the Newsday covers look at all, but I really liked the picture and the headline was perfect.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Holy hell, man, we're just destined to disagree on EVERYTHING this offseason. I'm a big fan of the Newsday layouts, and think they've had it all over the Post and News contenders presented here, generally.Went with TRIUMPHANT and PERFECT 10. Less punny, beautifully photographed.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Get out of my batmobile. And gimme back my tights.

I think that overall, Newsday's covers are the most pleasing to the eye. Great photos and less clutter.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I wanna vote for Perfect 10 but I'm struggling with it a little bit. I mean, perfect is nine pitches, not 10. Unless some batter fouled one off with two strikes. Then I could see "Perfect". Was that the case, or did deGrom throw a ball? I gotta think on this one a little bit more.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 It's still a perfect inning. In baseball terms, perfect means you got everybody out, not that you only threw strikes. In all the perfect games in baseball history, none of them have been achieved by throwing 81 pitches, all of them strikes.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Then it should read "Perfect Three" for outs or batters faced. Or "Perfect Inning". 10 is for pitches.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 I think you're overthinking this, but that's your prerogative.
