soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 In 1986, I had committed to go to a sorority formal previous to Mets getting to the World Series. It just so happened that the formal fell on the same night as Game 1. I missed the whole game.In 2000, I had to go to my future brother-in-law's bachelor party on the evening of Game 1. We had dinner in a fancy restaurant. No TVs. Later on, while there were more TVs and more interest in watching the game at that affair, it was still not an optimal viewing situation and I missed the meat of the game.Tonight - I will be parked in front of my TV from the first pitch.Lets Go Mets!

I missed the entire game.In 2000, We watched the game together at home.We all know what happened in both instances. In the interest of superstition, I know what I have to do ;-) Edited October 27, 2015 by Guest

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Don't remember Game 1 of 86.Game 1 of 2000 was one of the best and worst experiences of my life. I was sick all day with worry, knowing that a good start was critical, only to get one and see them flush it all away on the Timo/Zeile play, which I watched while standing on a bar stool at the Bull Moose on 44th street & 8th. I maintain if Timo hustles, we're still batting in that inning NOW.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 If there was any traffic, I'm actually now too far away to get to my 2000 game 1 watching place in Niagara Falls. But the Falls lead to Lake Erie/Erie Canal which connects to the Hudson which I can see from my office so..close enough?
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 To be clear, the Mets lost both of those Game 1's.Whatever we were doing for those - do NOT do that.No sexy time for you dgw...

And then I see everybody behind you and I'm thinking, "The man was drunk, and feeling none of it.'
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Wool sweater under sweatshirt and probably thermal under that.I know I've told this story before but John Kerry and someone elsesat behind us that night. They showed up in suits and were freezing.KB at one point gave Kerry some jacket. We didn't know who theywere other than they were Sox fans in sharp clothing.Kerry was on The Today Show sometime later (forget the time frame)and I flipped out it's it's it's the guy from the ballgame...
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I've been wearing two shirts under an orange sweatshirt and a jersey to playoff games and April games for years, but it's really probably not warm enough.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I just looked up the regular season numbers. 6 Royals posted an .800+ OPS. A seventh player, Salvador Perez, had .706 and hit 21 HR's.For the Mets, 6 regulars had an .800+ OPS. Their #7 is Daniel Fucking Murphy.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 That's a nice fountain in centerfield. It's a shame that it will soon flow red with the blood of our vanquished enemies.
