Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Y'know this thread made it occur to me that if you're a fan with a common name like Johnson or Smith (or increasingly these days Hernandez or Perez) the thing to do would be to buy your team's jersey with your same-name player on it only with velcro numbers. That way you could easily replace the digits when your team trades/signs a new player with your name and always have the thing era-appropriate without having to shell out for a new jersey every couple of years.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 How about shitty 1B Mark Johnson from the late 90's early 2000's?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Deron Johnson was one of the coaches (in addition to Howard who was already mentioned in the player category).I have no memory of Ben Johnson except that his name makes me think that he was the designated runner until he got busted for steroids.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 Deron Johnson replaced Dick Sisler on Joe Torre's staff for the strike-shortened 1981 season. Swept out with everybody else following the season. Had DH'd for the A's in 1973 and helped them beat the Mets in the Series. Ended up dying at only 53.[fimg=250:1ocqhz6q]http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/678400/5.jpg[/fimg:1ocqhz6q] [fimg=250:1ocqhz6q]http://cache4.asset-cache.net/gc/73562699-outfielder-ben-johnson-of-the-new-york-mets-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=GkZZ8bf5zL1ZiijUmxa7Qe1reRaHbkln02RBThJCz2v5wNDxML8OVeR49UICF7kD[/fimg:1ocqhz6q] [fimg=250:1ocqhz6q]http://img.comc.com/i/Baseball/1992/Upper-Deck-Factory-Set-Gold-Hologram/256/Howard-Johnson.jpg?id=3372aa31-0cf9-4ad0-8063-178958bdb59b&size=original[/fimg:1ocqhz6q][fimg=250:1ocqhz6q]http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q258/costello_07/Stubbys%20Scans/BJohnson67YB.jpg[/fimg:1ocqhz6q] [fimg=250:1ocqhz6q]http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/simarc/1960s/1969Mets/Bob_Johnson-1969_zpsfb27e94f.jpg[/fimg:1ocqhz6q] [fimg=250:1ocqhz6q]http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/828/828-513Fr.jpg[/fimg:1ocqhz6q][fimg=250:1ocqhz6q]http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/62135/62135-15Fr.jpg[/fimg:1ocqhz6q] [fimg=250:1ocqhz6q]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/07/1970deronstory1.jpg[/fimg:1ocqhz6q]
