I heard that Matt, Jacob and Noah will be on the next cover of SI. So I thought immediately thought "jinx". (I think "jinx" if I watch the game from a different chair, but back to this story)
So, sure enough, anther arm injury, but not one of those three.:

Kirk, keep your bags packed.

Seaver appears on the cover in 1969 and more than 40 years later suffers the effects of Lyme disease.

Definitely the jinx.

Michael Jordan was probably on the cover more than anyone, and
we all know how his baseball career went.

Jinxasaurus Rex!

I'm not sure if I can even recognize some of those guys now! I that Ollie up in the corner next to Omar, above Willie?

Jerry Koosman with the world on his shoulders.

Seems to me that there are 23 hats, besides the Mets, and there should be 25. Whose is missing?

Of course. For some reason, I was thinking S-T brought the number to 28. Of course, they brought it from 24 to 26.

I loved the halo on the Angels caps. They should bring that back, even if it's just a batting practice cap.

And it's a good precedent. The Cubs should have an alternative cap with fuzzy little ears. The Tigers, too. And the Braves should wear a feather.

Didn't* the Mets pull a mean prank on rookie Joe Smith, leading him on to believe that he was going to be included on that cover?*

*I'm phrasing this post as a question because I don't want to be perceived as a know-it-all on this one. I'm not really asking a question, though. I'm just providing info that everyone here already knows. In fact, it's highly likely that I was the last here to find out about the Joe Smith prank, if I even know about it all.

There must be dozens of interesting stories surrounding the SI covers,
it would make an interesting column or even a coffee table book.

To change the trajectory of whatever this thread is really supposed to be about, gotta wonder about how dedicated to Lagares the Mets can be given the fact he can't throw and despite being "hot" right now with the stick he's hardly an offensive plus on this club.

Would you trade for Carlos Gomez?

I might. I just might, rabbit.

I assume you mean trade Lagares for Carlos Gomez?

That's an interesting thought. Gomez is a year and a half away from free agency. Makes $8 million this year, $9 million next year. The Brewers would be getting a little younger, and a guy with a team-friendly contract, but also with a bad elbow.

He's hurt too, no?

OE: posted before reading BG's post.

That's dramatic. Until a week or two ago, I was thinking all the Mets focus had to be on infielders, perhaps trading a later figure like Herrera or Reynolds for a now guy like Zach Cozart or Jason Kipnis.

Now Cozart is hurt, and I don't know where they should be looking for an upgrade. They're just so close to average all around the diamond or at least will be once Murphy comes back.

Maybe a ton of assets can be moved for Todd Frazier. That guy's nuts this year.

Well I wouldn't necessarily suggest a challenge trade like that, I'm more thinking of the possibility that Lagares needs surgery or just needs to be replaced.

But, Gomez is a guy who could help a lot because he's a real leadoff guy, a basestealer etc., and maybe he goes in a trade for Montero +

I am also thinking of solving the rotation jam by trading Colon instead of Niese, not that Milwaukee would want him.

Eff Todd Frazier. He's too ghey for the MFYs.
