Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Bud Black fired by San Diego after 8 1/3 seasons.Dave Roberts taking over. There've been a lot of Dave Robertses in baseball history, I think, so I'm unsure if I know who he is.[fimg=500:1iqj2bts]http://www.itsfriartime.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/black.jpg[/fimg:1iqj2bts]

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I thought that this was going to be bad news about Vic Black.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 I like Bud Black, but his persistent employment puzzled me. He always seemed outmaneuvered by Terry and Terry's predecessors as well. And I say that as no fan of Jerry's in-game deployments.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 2007: lost one-game playoff for Wild card2010: finished second, missed Wild card by one game2008-09 and 2011-14: 6 losing seasons.Tough break for him but that's a long time to go without making the playoffs.Only other teams to not make playoffs from 2007-present:Mets, Marlins, Blue Jays, Astros, Mariners

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Sandy Eggo threw that team together this past winter with seemingly no plan, and it showed. A bunch of parts with little concern with how they'd fit (no true CF for instance) and now Bud Black gets to pay the price. But so will the next guy as they dealt away something like 12 of their top 20 prospects assembling the bunch who aren't getting it done now.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 And the new interim manager is former Notre Dame and ASU head coach/manager Pat Murphy. The Padres could end up having a rare four-manager year, but Murphy is expected finish it out. And, considering he was the youngest college coach ever to reach 500 victories, he may stick. I wish him luck, as it's a rare bird that parlays an NCAA baseball coaching career into a big league appointment. Can you name the last? i can't.Murphy left ASU under the thinnest of clouds.Murphy was forced to resign from Arizona State on November 20, 2009, while the baseball program was under investigation. The NCAA's investigation found Murphy innocent of violations regarding student-athlete employment and recruiting, reprimanding him solely for treating investigators with a "cavalier attitude". The Arizona State Athletics Department was ruled guilty for a Lack of Institutional Control charge, however, subsequently resulting in the baseball program being sanctioned and banned from postseason play in the 2012 season, as the ASU Athletic Department was a repeat offender.[fimg=500]http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-09-11/175764b0-39fd-11e4-a168-09ad01c88a26_181301479.jpg[/fimg]
